It was torrented 1.7 million times right?  That's probably part of the problem.   The game apparenlty wasn't too good either.  But what did they expect?  And what did it sell?

Wii userbase killed sales of Madden.

Just release SIMS 3 EA n you'll be fine!....n for gods sake DO NOT make it a Vista excusive unless you want it to FLOP!

The article is weird though.  It doesn't say if "Madden" sales are lower than expected, or sales in general.  It must mean "sales" in general since Madden performs like crap overseas, so it couldn't be expected to sell much, and the PS3 version of madden grew YoY in America, so it probably isn't that. 

More than likely it's talking about Mirror's Edge and Dead Space, two new IPs that were supposed to do better than they did.

I don't think anyone expects Wii Madden to do well after the previous ones.

The interesting questions are:

1- Is this related to the economic downturn?
2- Are any studios going to be shut down or projects cancelled?

I disagree.

It's a great game.  The only problem is people came in expecting five games... instead of just the one.

I don't know what EA expected internally, but Spore probably underperformed because it was "the most pirated game ever" and it looks like Mirror's Edge underperformed.

I really think they missed the boat not releasing Rockband 2 on Wii and PS2 this holiday. That could have covered alot of other mishaps because the game costs more and would be selling to bigger bases.
