Forums - Sony Discussion - Deal of the Month: PS3 60gb for ... 349USD o_0

They aren't offering these deals out of the goodness of their hearts. They want more suckers/clients who are so poor that they think $150 is going to entice them into their trap. These deals typically require that you keep the card open for a year or two. If you cancel early, you could be liable to pay much more than the money you save. In addition, there could be annual fees on the card. Do you really want all this hassle and risk just to save a couple bucks?

Take it from someone who has one of the highest credit ratings and uses credit cards to buy everything. Don't be enticed by these offers and pay off your balances every month.

Really folks, credit cards are bad. You should only use them for emergencies!

Credit cards are how most people find themselves deep in debt. Paying your own way through life is how you get ahead.

Not using credit cards is ok (I guess) however, they are a great tool if used properly. Pay off your balance in full every month. Keep your oldest account open forever. This is the beginning of your credit history, and closing the card will end that history. Only keep 2-4 cards at once.

People can do lots of bad things with tools, but that doesn't mean the tool is bad. You just have to give it the right respect and understand how to use it.

I'm sorry, but that applies to the USA. In the UK, credit history is not really important and you don't have to "build it up" with small loans, etc. Do you have a job? You can get credit.

In the USA you don't even need a job to get a credit card.  Heck I had a friend who didn't have a job and he got a bank loan for 3K.  Now he can't even get a credit card.

Credit card use requires responsibility! That said, I went through the terms and conditions and for the most part it is a standard credit card. The introductory rate is 0% so if you make your payments on time, the cost of credit is nil. After the intro, it goes to 15% which is too high. I'd buy and cancel it once paid off and I got my $150. The "default" rate is rather steep -- 32%. If you make a late payment or default for any of their stated reasons, they'll bump you up from 0 to that rate effective immediately and they aren't required to inform you. (and they won't). Overall, if someone has good credit and is responsible enough to take care of the paperwork, this is a smokin deal. They are also stating free shipping through thursday... hmmm...

I hate trolls.

Credit cards can pay *you* if you use them properly. I rarely use cash ever anymore. if they take plastic I use it. There is no point when you can earn cashback or other rewards when you use your card. Also it can protect your purchases and sometimes extend the warranty depending on the card benefits.

They key is to be responsible and make sure you pay your whole balance every month. This way you are not getting finance charge. This only works if you make sure you dont spend more than you can pay off for that period.

I earn 5% back on gas and other 'auto related' purchases on my 'gas card', and 3% back on another rewards card. If you use them for everything you normally spend day to day it really adds up month after month. I got over 100$ in cashback last year on one card alone.

Make sure to get a card that doesnt have an annual fee!

You are right, but most people just don't have the type of discipline for this type of use.  It may be tempting, but it is a bad reason to use a credit card.  I agree that cash is inconvenient, but I use my Debit Card every where.  They take it every where now.  Blockbuster requires a CC, so I don't rent from Blockbuster on principle, that I don't want to share my CC info and have it on file any where.  I will use it for rental cars or when I stay in hotel/casinos, because h/c's usually put a huge hold on your account (and I don't even gamble).

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

The free Wii from GameFly is also a great deal :P

Its a good deal if you ever get credit for any of your referals. I had three word of mouth referals and didn't get credit for any of them because you have to send e-mails through their site.

You cannot just give people the slips that come with your game (like they suggest) because when you put friend as the source of referal there is no place for them to write in your account information.

I understand them not wanting to give $250 dollars worth of merchandise but I fully disaprove of underhanded business tactics.

And people wonder why the subprime loan market crashed

Uh...what are you talking about?

GameFly is doing a promotional program where you need to get 5 friends to sign up for Gamefly, and pay for 2 months worth, which comes to $25 a person.

So...if none of your friends really want to use Gamefly (an excellent service), you could pay them $25 each and thus you get a Wii for $125. I did it, paid most of my friends, so it came to about $80 in "bribes",  and I'll be getting a free Wii in a couple weeks.

The best part is, if you go to Brightspot.tv, you can watch advertisements, and they pay you about 25 cents per ad to go towards either Gamefly or Napster music, for a max of $10 credit per month.

So...it costs me $5 a month for Gamefly, along with my 5 friends, 3 of them which didn't even need me to pay them...they wanted the service anyway.

So yeah...check it out, but hurry because I think the promotion ends at the end of August. If you start now, I'm pretty sure you'll still qualify for a free Wii.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
