After reaching 2 million units sold in its opening weekend, Epic Games told Edge on Monday that Gears of War 2 has rapidly hit another milestone.

Epic Games VP Mark Rein said in an e-mail, "Microsoft [the game's publisher] confirmed to me this afternoon that Gears of War 2 sell-through surpassed 3 million units as of last week."

2006's original Gear of War took around ten weeks to hit the same mark. Gears 2 did it in four.

The confirmation follows comments by Microsoft Game Studios general manager Phil Spencer, who said the game is "pushing" 3 million sold.

The original Gears of War has sold around 5 million copies to date.

Edit: The fact that it says "around" 5 million might be the difference.

Around means it could be higher or it could be lower.

Within 10% for Gears 2.

Very good! Hopefully it can pull out another million or two before 09 rolls around!

This backs up the claims about it earlier that everyone was so fast to dismiss saying they were old numbers

IT surpsassed 3 million sell through last week. Heh, exactly like I said and if it has hit wat Gears hit at 10 weeks in four then yea that is all there is to say.

Gears1 did 1.85 million in its first 2 NPDs and debuted at n.1 almost everywhere. It's not a good example when talking about games being "overtracked".

So once this weeks numbers are in, Gears 2 will be overtracked? Since we'll get last weeks numbers.

So is this talking about numbers for the week ending the sixth, or the week ending on black friday?
