The weakest and most basic of enemies can make you look silly in Ninja gaiden and beat you up real good, they don't just stand there waiting to get their asses kicked like in certain other hack and slashers. *cough* GOW

Ninja Gaiden series (the recent ones).

High difficulty level, non-intrusive story and focus on responsive controls. It's nice that for a change, the enemies are there to kill you and not merely waiting to be slaughtered. Some of the enemies can quickly chop you in pieces.

In other words, it has many of the elements which make old games so much better than most modern games (generally speaking).
