Forums - Sales - Why do people still use "The Ten Year Plan" excuse?

Personally I buy the 10 year plan, so far sony has done about that... Also, the PS3's power has not yet been tapped... It has plenty of life in it.

Now, what I think IS lame is the constant "this game is the savior bs"

There is a rap sheet of like 10 games that were supposed to solve all of the PS3's problems... I think the next "savior" is Killzone 2, then GT5...

I can think of like Lair, Ratchet, Heavenly Blade, GTPrologue, DMC, GTA4, Res 2, LBP, Uncharted, yazuka 3, mgs4, and i am sure there were others. Some of those were just Japan saviors btw (yazuka, and dmc)

KZ2 is already using 60% of the power of the Cell and MGS4 Maxed Blue Ray out and its only what the 3rd year since its released?

Xbox is no differnet either.

Ok, I skipped the last 10 or so responses because I just woke up and I don't feel like reading but to the guys saying the PSP wont reach 10 years.

1. SW support has been increasing. (SE, insomniac, L5, media Molecule, Slant Six are all companies that will support PSP)

2. It just had a hardware revision. No way Sony will kill it just a year after.

3. It's more expensive than he Ps2.

4. for a first attempt in the handheld that use to be dominated by Nintendo they did very good.

5. it's still selling.

I did'nt say it would die next year, it should last till 2012, but I can't see it lasting till 2014/2015 ... A new PSP will be out by then ...

that 60% is a made up figure. If we believe that 60% number it means they created the perfect code and no one else can make a more efficient one in the life of the ps3.

Blu-ray being used up? We still have questions if it was 25 gig or 50 gig. If it was 25 gig blu-ray then he only used half of what the tech allows right now. If it was 50.... then there is always the solution of compressing audio and visual files to squeez in a few extra gigs.

Just because a new PSP will be out doesn't mean they will stop supporting the first. The only reason Ps1 and Ps2 last as long as the have is because sony kept them around even after the new console was out.

MGS4 was 33gb of total data (nearly 12gb of that was the audio alone) and they put it on a 50gb BD.

Ugh, a new PSP out 2011, 6 years after the PSP came out, whilst the new PSP will be out for 2 years you think the handheld from the previous generation that didn't become the most popular will still be selling?!

Sony continued to sell the PS1/PS2 because they were the overwelming victors and both very popular. DS will continue to sell but the PSP won't.

There you go Garnett 33gig out of 50gigs. Not maxed out

I think "ten years plan" actually means that there will be PS3s on the shelf in ten years whether people buy them or not. After three years, people will not even lay an eye on PS3 but it's still there and will be there for the next 8 years

Technology moves way too fast, and the apparent superior Sony cell processor won't be state-of-the-art by then.. it will be antiquated technology.  I know some fanboys want to believe their consoles have 2050 technology in it, but it really doesn't.  In a decade every console of this generation will look like a PSOne in retrospect.

I appreciate your contributions to this discussion, but you kind of completely missed my point, which was that technology has nothing to do with the start of new console generations. And everyone else seems to be ignoring that as well, unfortunately. (It's all about business strategies! Stop talking about hardware specs!)

I wonder why I bother to type long responses sometimes... Glutton for punishment, I guess.

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

Nintendo and microsoft never said they wanted there consoles to last 10 years, the only company I see gloating on about the 10 year life cycle is sony..
