Forums - Gaming - Editorial: Nintendo’s Wii Is The Gaming Industry’s Financial Scapegoat

I agree with naznatips as well.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

The Wii is no different.  It caught developers off guard so of course the first few titles you will see are going to be shovelware.  However, I submit to you that these games are no more crap than some generic shooter like Area 51 being made for the PS3 and 360.  If you really think that the Wii will never get big games, even when it's got 50%+ of the market share, I think you are kidding yourself.  I'd love to know of any leading console in the previous 4 generations of modern gaming that didn't experience the majority of 3rd party support.  Nintendo getting that support is something young gamers have trouble accepting as an innevitability, simply because in the short time these kids have been gaming they have only seen Sony dominate.  '

Why not wait until a game actually comes out before bashing it?  You have no idea how Area 51 will turn out so stop comparing it to crap.

Also just because a game is a FPS in no way applies that it's automatically crap.  If that was the case pretty much all the rpgs coming out of Japan are crap since very few of them actually innovate the genre.  The same can be said about most genres because when it comes right down to it there're very few titles that come out that actually change things radically.  What does matter a lot though is how much fun, enjoyment, and value people get out of the game.

Well the writer of the article we're arguing about likes to reference future games in his story...even though he doesn't know exactly how said games will turn out...

And yes, it matters how fun it is for those who actually play the games.

And I seriously doubt the writer of this article even touched any of the Wii games he criticized.

I used to think FPS were complete crap, but when I played resistance...they became one of my favorite genre, still action/adventure is best genre for any game.

The irony of this post is so incredibly thick I'm drowning in it.

So let's recap: You admit that you consider all these games to be crap by taking it as an insult to associate Area 51 with them. Then 5 seconds later you complain about judging games before they are released. I don't think I have ever seen such a ridiculous example of hipocracy from anyone in my life. Not 2 days ago you made a post about "Where are all the Wii games?," obviously judging every single current 3rd party Wii game on it's way before it was released. I mean, I actually can not stop laughing at the irony of you complaining about judging games before the are released. This is so ridiculous it speaks for itself, but I couldn't resist comenting on it anyway.

Edit:  You're topic about how there are no good Wii games coming http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?start=0&id=5140

Just to say, I'm not disagreeing that the Wii is lacking in good 3rd party games at the moment, but there are certainly some, and there are certainly some more on their way.

-Godfather Wii
-Rayman Raving Rabbids
-Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
-My Sims
-NiGHTS
-No More Heroes
-Zack and Wiki
-Beautiful Katamari (budget title)
-Bully Scholarship Edition (If you played this game last gen you know it will be awesome with Wiimote controls)
-Resident Evil 4 Wii (budget title)
-Final Fantasy CC:CB
-Dragon Blade
-Geometry Wars Galaxies
-Medal of Honor: Heroes 2
-Guitar Hero 3
-Tales of Symphonia: KoR
-Sword of Legendia
-Harvest Moon Wii
-Manhunt 2 (someday)
-Samurai Warriors Katana
-Mercury Meltdown Revolution (budget title)
-Puzzle Quest (budget title)
-Rock Band
-Resident Evil: UC
-Soul Calibur Legends (this may turn out sucky)
-Sadness
-Space Station Tycoon
-Trauma Center
-Trauma Center 2

No, I did not just list every 3rd party Wii game. I only listed the good ones and some of the ones that look like they have potential (there are well over 200 3rd party Wii games made and in development). I'm not by a long shot saying that the Wii has the best 3rd party line up of all time, but it's certainly not looking horrible. Considering that a year ago every 3rd party thought the Wii was a doomed platform and a money-sink I'd say the little guy in white is doing very well.

Bumping due to 3rd page.  Sorry to keep bumping it I just figure having it around at least quells one of the arguments on this topic.  That being: Both sides admit it's not the most stellar 3rd party line up ever, but it's not the worst either (and certainly much better than what the Gamecube and N64 started with).  It's especially not too bad considering the initial perception of the Wii from 3rd parties.

Question for all those that out right disagree with the article, did you even read it ? and if you did what specific paragraph is so wrong in your opinion ?

Many of you seem so angry, i just want to know what caused it.

Pretty much right when the writer quickly throws away Excite Truck and Mario Party as complete crap. I completely disagree with him, as I've had more fun with Excite Truck than a lot of recent racers...the controls were new and fun, and the graphics weren't half bad...moving along at 60 fps it was very fast. Mario Party was an overall enjoyable game...it only gets mediocre reviews because it's the 8th game and not much is new. That doesn't inherently make it bad though.

And this guy's whole article hinges on his opinion that 3rd party games on the Wii suck...even though I'd disagree with him on a lot of games.

His opinion are based on reviews, both did not get great numbers with MP8 getting slamed by a few major review sources.  So then you disagree with all the reviews those games got and not just the writer ?

I don't see Dragon Quest Swords or Chocobo's Dungeon on that list. Granted, I've heard tales about DQS being a disappointment in Japan but I still think it's noteworthy. Chocobo's Dungeon...not much to go off of there just yet.

EDIT: Also, Project O. Can't believe I forgot about that one.

Ok, in your first paragraph you talk about shovelware.  In your second paragraph you state: "The Wii is no different. It caught developers off guard so of course the first few titles you will see are going to be shovelware. However, I submit to you that these games are no more crap than some generic shooter like Area 51 being made for the PS3 and 360.".  I must have misunderstood your post because it looked to my like you were comparing shovelware to Area 51.

Also in that link you posted I was talking about when we'd see games with major development/budgets on the Wii instead of budget titles, ps2 ports, and minigames, I wasn't rating specific games or implying anything about them other than that they are low budget and in some cases quick ports.

I've heard too much about DQS being disappointing.  I'm trying to keep the list devoid of controversy, but keep the big anticipated titles on there, and yeah, we don't know enough about Chocobo's Dungeon.  The list isn't there to create conflict, it's there to resolve it.  So again, trying to keep games on there that most people on this forum would agree have some decent potential.
