Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN is confusing me right now.

I know they don't rate games by average, but look at this:

Tak and the Guardians of Gross

7.0

Presentation
The game's art design is original and, for the most part, highly amusing. The user interface is streamlined and simple, perfect for gamers of all ages.

6.0

Graphics
There are a few epic moments where the scale of the "Grosstrosities" is shown off, but aside from these brief snippets the game's graphical engine is pretty bland.

6.0

Sound
Voice over work is top-notch and the music isn't half bad, either. Tak's constant commentary can get a bit obnoxious, but at least he stays humorous throughout.

6.5

Gameplay
Too streamlined for its own good. Combat and platforming can sometimes turn into a tedious errand.

6.0

Lasting Appeal
The story will take three or four hours to beat and the multiplayer doesn't add a whole lot outside of another marketing bullet point on the back of the box. There

Rygar: The Battle of Argus

6.0

Presentation
No widescreen support, ugly character models, and painful dialogue. The extra Gladiator Mode is nice, though, and waggle controls don't get in the way of the action.

7.0

Graphics
A lot of the environments still look good, with pretty reflections on many surfaces. The characters have not aged well, though.

8.5

Sound
The orchestral score is fantastic, but the voice actors struggle with the cheesy dialogue.

5.5

Gameplay
This is a six-year old game, and it feels like it. The standard action and light exploration don't offer anything new. Plus, some awkward controls and camera problems get in the way.

6.5

Lasting Appeal
Gladiator Mode is an arcade-style beat 'em up that encourages players to keep trying to get better scores.

Anybody got some explanations?

They dont know how to count?

Perhaps gameplay is a lot more important than sound.

The gameplay was very low..

Former something....

Not an average.

I don't see the problem...

This. At any rate, both games are average, quibbling over half a point, in the big picture, isn't worth it.

I don't always go by IGN's ratings. Sometimes they give good games bad ratings and sometimes they hype up games that don't deserve to be hyped. They always don't make good ratings.

Did you read the FIRST sentence of the thread?

To answer MontanaHatchet's question, look what they wrote for gameplay:

"Plus, some awkward controls and camera problems get in the way."

But then look what they wrote in the Presentation:

"The extra Gladiator Mode is nice, though, and waggle controls don't get in the way of the action."

The review feels like the categorical comments were mixed up into the wrong places. Shouldn't "waggle control" be put into the gameplay section? Tak is 3-4 hours in the story mode and has multiplayer, and the Lasting Appeal gets a 6. Rygar has 8-10 hours with a 30-level Horde (Gladiator) Mode, and it gets a 6.5? Maybe Tak should've gotten a lower Lasting Appeal rating.

The difference between scores is 2 whole points, but Tak still gets a 6.6? Daemon is a terrible reviewer.

WTF?! contradiction?

waggle control=good but waggle control= bad

also..WTF?! never do the numbers match up..and even so

how the HELL would TAK get more than Rygar?!!?

same thng with Castlevania..Judgment..should have gotten higher..
