Forums - Sony Discussion - Will Sony meet their PS3/PS2/PSP hardware shipment forecasts for this year?

As you can see here, Sony's hardware shipment forecast for the ongoing fiscal year (April 2008 - March 2009) was the following:

- PS3: 10 million
- PSP: 15 million (edit - later revised to 16 million)
- PS2: 9 million

According to vgchartz, sales from the beginning of the fiscal year until the end of November were as follows:

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 05th Apr 2008 to 29th Nov 2008:

Console PS3 PSP PS2
Total
6,162,088
7,436,019
4,300,381

Given this, do you think they can attain these forecast numbers until March? I'd say it's looking good for the PS3, but not good for PSP and PS2.

PS3 definitely
PSP looks bad I must say.
PS2 is hard to track, but I think the 360 pricecut and Wii stole a lot of potential PS2 buyers.

PS3 without a doubt.
PSP impossible
PS2 extremely unlikely.

It seems we're in agreement.

The PSP is definitely the worst looking of the three. Not only won't it hit the forecast, it will probably even sell less than last year (13.89m). It's pretty much official that the two cash cows of their gaming division are declining.

they need to sell more psp and PS2 in the next 4 months than in the previous 8.

PS3 they should manage it, unless the new financial year Price cut rumour becomes widespread and people wait till then to buy

We will see after this christmas.

Didn't they actually raise their forecast for PSP to 16 Million?

Yes, it appears you're right, they revised it in September or October:

What were they thinking?

Maybe VGChartz is off with the estimates. Who knows. We'll just have to wait and see because they wouldn't raise it if there was no hope of even reaching the old target.
