Actually, looking at the date, it was posted on October. He really looks like a moron now. LOL.

I don't know.  From what i hear a crapload of blockbuster bombs make a killing in the DVD market.

No doubt the movie companys will eventually try and push blu-ray even harder... but the question is will they do it now during the recession when people may be priced out of the market?

The industry is fairly recession proof but people area still going to be mad at the cheaper pricepoint getting taken away and backlash could be huge.

Blu-ray seems destined to be a niche product for at least as long as the economic crisis lasts unless it's costs eventually come down to bring it to DVD level.

Also the BDA will likely have to lower liscensing fees.  One of the biggest problems people had with DVD was the fees were too high.. and the BDA's is apparently higher?

I mean in china they'd actually lose money per DVD and DVD player they made leading them to consider making their own "HD" format.

why are are the ps3 fans attacking those who dislike BD? way to be mature guys, that'll help get people over to your cause....lets infuriate them, and make it something they hate even more...

I'm not saying that some anti-BD people aren't the same, but you never see the same venom from them.

I personally dislike blu-ray at the moment because people keep telling me that I need it, I don't need crap when it comes to spending that much money for no reason. It reminds me of how Laser-disc fans acted 10 years ago.

The music CD format was around for (roughly) a decade before the average consumer saw enough of a benefit from CD to (really) care; even then they didn't fully abandon the cassette tape for years because the cassette had several benefits that the CD could not replicate. At the same time, Laserdisc never really caught on as a replacement to VHS inspite of having a similar advantage as CDs had (over cassette tapes).

Blu-Ray falls into odd company being that it is a disc format that is replacing a disc format with (almost) no benefit over the previous format besides quality and capacity. There are obvious comparisons to SACD and DVD-A which both were highly praised by audiophiles while consumers ignored these formats and (eventually) adoped MP3 which offered lower quality audio than the currently popular CD format. This doesn't translate to Blu-Ray being doomed, but I do think that Blu-Ray has an uphill battle to prove its value to consumers before they will accept it like they accepted DVD or CD.
