Forums - Sony - Blue Ray is dead? (Article)

We all know what would happen to movies if Blu-ray won't win...
We all will become PIRATES!

here we go again, ppl criticising blu ray again. just to remind ya dvd can't support HD. they weren't design to handle the memory HD needs. since HD takes 5x more memory than standard, you need 5x more memory. thats where blu ray comes in. why do you think movie developers don't put HD on dvd's, because it can't fit.

i remember ppl saying that DVD was a faliure and it won't replace VCR's because it was more expensive, well look at wat happen. once the PS2 came out with dvd playability, and dvd players prices dropped, they were flying off the shelfs and ppl started converting VCS, to DVD's. the same thing will happen to blu ray. once the price drops, everyone will convert to blu ray and HD

^doubt it b/c dvd didnt have to compete with streaming and downloads

i am proof that it will effect the market b/c i have no plan now to buy a blu ray player as i can get great picture quality with out

and with what i have now bluray is not as big of a jump and dvd to vhs

I think one point being missed is that there are a lot of young folk out there that dont have these enormous dvd libraries to cry about, in fact, i myself have more blueray films than dvd at this point.

If the film companies are signed up to it then blueray is what you will be getting, there is no choice in the matter, they will simply stop selling films on dvd eventually. people didnt stop buying vhs because they loved their dvds so much, load of people were pissed off that dvd ever came out because of their already existing vhs collections.

Also, on the point of downloads, while the convenience is there, i agree with those who said about people liking to buy something that they can hold onto, also, both download speeds and hard drive size are no where near the levels required to make download hd content a viable solution currently.

If you think blueray is a niche market, then any belief that it will be outdone anytime soon by the download market is pie in the sky imo. The number of people that have a system of any description in their home that easily plays downloaded material on their living room tv so tiny that it makes the blueray market look huge in comparison.

Also any hd downloads would be going to be through a ps3, xbox, or pc, one of those already has a blueray, another are starting to be sold with blue ray as standard (or you can pick one up pretty cheap) and everyone else no doubt will be buying the stand alone players.

I really think this is just another evolution in distributable media, and, as previously said, the youngen's aint interested in your smelly old man dvds lol

WTF? This is a 5 week old article.

What reason is there to even post this? Especially after the big BD sales Black Friday weekend.

Why do idiots can write articles on the internet?

i have to agree, i have a fantastic upscaling dvd player and i can stream hd movies thru netflicks

why do i need blu ray when i can get almost as good now with out having to shell out tons of money

with hard times coming for most of the world this format will quickly e seen as an extra and not a necessity

I sincerely disagree with your argument. I just don't think that the mass market has the same mentality as you when it comes to streaming movies. I personally will never buy a file on a computer before a nice blu ray disc in a case with a cover  and boxart that I can touch :)

thats fine with me you are allowed to have a different opinion then me

but the video market is going to go the same way as the audio market, its unavoidable

its only a matter of time

i mean this same fight was going on with cds and when the majority of the world saw the easy go they would have of just downloading a cd they moved to that

the only thing holding that back right now is internet speeds and file size, but that is a argument that gets weakend every day thanks to industry growth

Blu ray will pick up. Do they really expect it to take over DVD in a couple years? VHS still lasted a while after DVD came out.

I think it was posted to counter the recent article about how well Blu-ray is selling this holiday season.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.
