Forums - Gaming - Why do we ignore the PC?

I have never figured out why folks on this site like to ignore the PC version of games so much.  Its always rationalized as "Well we are just talking about consoles...".  But wait this is VGChartz as in Video Game.  PC's have video games too. Now I don't particularly care about tracking PC sales, since the hardware is a nightmare to track, but that doesn't mean it should be dropped from discussion.  The "PC doesn't count" argument always seems to be used selectively and is usually just a shield people hide behind.

Now if you want to make the argument that a certain game sucks to control on the PC, then sure, I can get behind the fact that most people will buy the console version if it is commonly excepted that the controls are much better for a certain game. But I just can't get behind the idea that games like UT3 are going to be better somehow on the console and should therefor count as an exclusive for the PS3 (even though it is only a timed exclusive). This is of course not to mention the fact that the PC is the preferred UT method for most people and the PC will probably have far better support than the PS3 version.

We are, all of us, gamers.  The first thing we think about when we hear about a game we want is "What platform?", and as long as we have one of the platforms listed we are good to go.  Basically by discounting the PC versions you force it out of the discussion and we magically pretend that people who own PC's but not xxx console are going to go out and buy a xxx just to play a game they can already play on their PC.

In conclusion, I just don't see how we can say we are discussing video games, and yet discount what is probably the largest install base platform out there simply because it doesn't fit your reality. The PC is real, people play games on it all the time, stop ignoring it just because its conveniant for your arguments!

Dunno, i think is because a lot of xbox/ps games are or will be available in the PC thus they can't argue that it is an exclusive.

I dont ignore the PC. I would never buy a console for a game like bioshock or UT 3 when i know that it will be available and perhaps will be even better in the PC.

That is why I have always thought Xbox consoles have had weaker lineups, because you could play a lot of the games on PC as well. They are still good games, but you don't HAVE to play them on the Xbox.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I agree...I'm buying Bioshock, Unreal Tournament 3, Left 4 Dead, HL2, Assassin's Creed, etc all for PC, and I wish people around here would treat PC gamers with respect.

That is...not all of us PC gamers are "hardcore" or "pro gamers"...we just play games on our PCs...

We're not graphics whores either...but better graphics is always good.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Because the PS3 is the PC's replacement.

imo pc-gamers are the most hardcore, there willing to put a lot of cash in there systems. They like the adjustability and mods for games. although there are more games coming to the consoles pc is still by far my favorite game device. online is still the best on pc, there is alot of freedom and if you can afford it you have the best graphics. not to mention the best controls for fps. (the 360 controller is also very cool on the pc, for the race and third-person games).

because it cost a lot of money to have those games working full power on your PC every 6 month.. so a lot of people prefer to get them on console.... and a lot of gamers are not geeks either (i'm one) so they don't even where to begine to have a good PC up to date...

the other reason PC is hard to take in account, is that a lot of people DL illegaly the games for PC....

it's not that we avoid it.. it's just that it's hard to compare.... it's the same games but not the same context.... since XB I haven't upgraded my PC and play game only on console except RTS... and some exclu RPGs
it's also better with a pad to play a lot of games than keybord.... like fighting games, plateformers, racing game (you ge a wheel but pd is better than keuboard) etc....
you have also the local multiplayer aspect... it's easier for families or friends to play on one TV with one copy of the game than having a LAN computer room up to date to play with your friends or family.....

so no we don't ignore it, it's just really hard to compare.... I4m pretty sure a game like Bioshock will sell better on console than PC....

well that might be because you have too much freedom that it might not be the best.... for some games it's a pain in the ass to play online.... you have too many option...... but the lobby system is great.... you are sure everybody as the same system on console, th same version of the game etc.... the other big adventage is that most people on XB have a headset and mic... which makes why more fun and friendly for some games..... I use to be a big quake gamer... but halo was way more fun to make clans and friends on it (or for that matter any other game with a good online support on console).....

as for the graphics..... well even if I have the machine to run them full quality... I always lower them to low online like a lot of hardcore gamers simply becaus with less detail in the decor it's easier to see the opponent and frag them :) a lot of hardcore gamer on quake use to do that.....

Personally Im a PC gamer mainly for the adjustability of games on the PC. Morrowind for example is, in my opinion, much better as a PC game than it ever was as a console game. Being able to mod it is the only reason I played it over and over so many times - often with races of my own invention.

Playing as a race with pretty much no defense or hit points but extremely powerful magic just makes the game interesting enough to play through it again.

Also backwards compatability on the PC is near perfect, you can emulate all the old operating systems and some of the games I play the most were made in the 1980's.

Edit: Also the PC is just naturally suited for some genres of games, FPS and RTS are the two main examples. RTS in particular is just so much more suited to a PC than a console.

Left4Dead has been delayed :(

I'm still up on the air about which Bioshock version to get
