Forums - Nintendo - So the big wave of new games was a wash... What's going on?

As noted above, many publishers were focusing on 2007 releases at E3 and weren't ready to show what they have in store for next year. With many developers coming to the Wii party late, only quick titles like ports and mini game compilations will be seen from many 3rd parties this year. Hopefully that trend will not continue too far into 2008.

But as many also said, the Wii has enough games coming out this year already especially with the 'Holy Trinity' of Metroid 3, Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Brothers all being released before the end of the year. Throw in a few 'lesser' titles like Battalion Wars 2, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, My Sims, NiGHTS, etc., and there may be too many...

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

What was that you're saying Legend?

Whoops, my bad, didn't think those were so I'll take them off the list I suppose. Still though, it's a good list for the next five months for just third party games.

And it should be noted that my list doesn't contain all 3rd party games for this year, only some of the bigger ones.

There were a lot of games announced for the Wii in the weeks leading up to E3. The most intersting of that bunch (in my opinion) being Dragonblade. And a few were announced at the event. Specificaly Ubisoft's Nitrobike. Which so far looks like Excitebike with online.

Sure E3 wasn't great for third party Wii announcements (or any third party announcements), but then again, the main focus seemed to be on the same games that were the main focus last year.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Yeah, the list isn't too bad.  It's nothing to write home about but for a first year (and considering all these titles started before anyone knew the Wii was a success) it's looking decent.  Again, I don't expect this to be a problem next year.

Online multiplayer exclusive to Wii version.  Also, DBZ:BT2 was great on the Wii, and I don't even like DBZ.  So yeah, I'm buying this.

3rd party Wii games I will be buying this year:

NiGHTS
Medal of Honor: Heroes (if it's good)
Dragon Ball Z:BT3
Zack and Wiki (probably looking forward to this the most)
Guitar Hero 3
Resident Evil: UC (if it's good)

Again, not an incredible list, but it's what I expected.

Yeah, the online is definitely going to be a plus for this game and the controls on DBZ:BT2 were pretty good for the most part (I just hated you had to sit so close) and apparently they've really nailed down the controls for this one so I'm looking forward to it.  Sadly though, this is another one that may have to sit aside for a while since there are just too many games on my radar (currently having to decide between Bioshock and MP3).

No More Heroes and Manhunt 2 both come to mind, assuming Manhunt 2 makes it out this year. And as a long as you mentioned Guitar Hero III you might as well mention DDR: Hottest Party, and Madden 08 with it's own exclusive Party Mode.
