Applying this strategy Microsoft must have been amazed that its main competitor, Sony (SNE), decided to make so many strategic and tactical mistakes and to basically throw away its market dominance. It must also be very pleased that Nintendo (NTDOY.PK) chose to remain in the “toy” end of the market and so did not build the infrastructure necessary to compete in the long term.

Microsoft is in the middle of one of the biggest shifts that any major corporation has ever made. From an IT company that did a bit of gaming to a consumer media company that does a bit of IT.

WTF!!

Someone had a nice full glace of M$ kool-aid this morning.

Besides the idiotic stab at Nintendo, I'm surprised to say that I actually agree with him.

Microsoft has traditionally been a largely PC-oriented company, with Office, Windows, and IE being their bread and butter. Now that territory is being encroached on on all fronts--losing the home computer/OS market to Apple in a big way, Google is smoking them in the search engine realm and taking some of Office with it--hell, even Ubuntu's making a decent stand.

By branching out into gaming, music, and 'etc.' areas like the Microsoft Surface, they're broadening their horizons and making damn sure they keep mindshare and marketshare in the midst of all this pummeling.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Smart move from Microsoft!!

The gaming industry is still at its very beginning. The future growth potential is very many times the current size of the market. So it will grow to be a far bigger market than the IT markets that Microsoft has monopolized for so long. In other words,

lol
