Forums - Gaming - Sonic Xtreme for the Sega Saturn will soon exist!

I want this game. I LOVE Sonic. Oh, Knuckles is my favorite. I still have every one of his comics, and sonic 3 with Sonic and Knuckles is my favorite sonic game.

Sonic Xtreme is filled with so much BS I dont even want to get into it. Project S is a joke and Cris Senn is an ass, thats all I'm gonna say.

Hey now, Xtreme was a pretty awesome project, and Chris Senn is a cool person, quite friendly, likes chatting about Xtreme stuff now and then.

About a year and a half ago a Sonic Xtreme prototype surfaced for auction on Assemblergames.com. Chris Senn caught wind of this and threw a shit fit, claiming that the game was "his" and couldn't be released, dispite the fact that he was only one member of a team of many, and the code being Sega property and all. He threw around all sorts of legal threats and got some of his sega fans to start spamming assemblergames until some dumb kid tried a DDOS attack.

In July the prototype was finally released as an Assemblergames community release. Basically, member of the forum pooled money together to purchase it and publicly distribute it.(~$3000US, BTW) All of this was inspite of Senn's earlier attempts to prevent release, although tons of bullshit was thrown around by both sides back then.

Basically, Xtreme=drama

However, I really dont see the point of Project X. We already have a very early proto of the game, and things should be focused on getting the later, much more complete PC version of Xtreme from 1996. Instead, people want to purse a fangame that will be fairly different than what the game was going to be and likely no better than most romhacks. Still, I think the real Xtreme looks like it would have been rubbish, with the development hell of the title and some of the arguably stupid gameplay decisions.

And I have no clue what Alex is talking about with regards to Sonic being like mario galaxy with the gravity. Maybe he doesn't realize its a fish eye camera? And he gripes about how stupid Sonci stories are now? Obviously he's never read what was planned for Xtreme...

I guarantee you Sonic Xtreme will not be finished, ever. At least not by anyone even remotely connected to Sega. I'm a member at The Sonic 2 Beta Page, and was a former member of Sonic CulT, two sites that have done a decade of Sonic game research and analysis. They've had interviews with dozens of former Sega employees and developers. They were the ones to find out about Tiara Boobowski and all of the hidden little things about the game that only the developers knew.

It's not coming back.

EDIT: And honestly, nearly every Sonic fan I've met has praised Sonic Rush for being the best 2D Sonic game since Sonic & Knuckles, and I'd have to agree.

The only 2D Sonic games that came out after Sonic & Knuckles, besides Sonic Rush, are the Sonic Advance series, so saying that Sonic Rush is the best 2D game after Sonic & Knuckles isn't saying much. But as I said before, it is never-the-less a decent 2D Sonic game.

Sonic Rush came out 12 years after Sonic & Knuckles.  Plus, with the pile of often-rated-as-subpar games, 2D or 3D, that came out after S&K, that is still saying a lot.

Sonic Xtreme does NOT "have to come out".  The project died a decade ago.  Sega will not finish it.

sieanr: (Are you Kwaad?)  Yeah, I was aroudn when the AssemblerGames debacle happened (they were huge jerks and watermarked the crap out of the video).   Things did get out of hand, primarily because, when asked to release a version of the proto video WITHOUT the massive red "ASSEMBLERGAMES.COM" logo across the bottom, they started flinging shit back.

It was an interesting idea, but probably would have sold poorly, and DEFINITELY would not have ultimately changed the outcome of Sonic or Sega.

Last update: Week ending November 3, 2007

I don't know, but the gravity concept in Sonic Xtreme just reminded me of Super Mario Galaxy. I'm not the only one who thought this. If you go into the website http://www.senntient.com/cgi-local/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true , you will see that others thought the same that I did. Anyways, Project S was started on June 2007, which is quite recently. I don't see why everyone thinks that it wont be completed? With todays technology, the game should be easily completed. I even made a thread, mentioning that I wanted the game to be a straight resuming of the unfinished project, rather than a different game, inspired by a fan base, so hopefully, my influence will straighten things out, even though it is highly unlikely.

If they don't do a straight resuming of the unfinished project, than whatever game they make wont be Sonic Xtreme, it will be a different game. They should just resume the unfinished project, and release the game for the destined Sega Saturn. Well, if they do make the game from scratch, inspired by Sonic fans, hopefully they will still make it as close to what the unfinished project is as possible. And if the Sonic Xtreme story is that horrible, than perhaps it can still change, since the game is still unfinished. Maybe I will make another thread, asking for a story revision, or even better, a story removal. Who knows, anyone can make a difference. Now, do you guys not want a Sonic Xtreme or not? So many of you are assuming that it is not going to be good. You cannot judge a book by its cover. If you are really a fan of Sonic, you will want this game to be completed! Go into that website, and start making more suggestions, like I did, and perhaps, if the game is finished, it will be even better.

Actually, I never liked Knuckles, even at the beginning. As a game, I had some fun with Sonic Adventure 2, but the fact that there were so many things wrong with it, and because it strayed too far from the original formula, irritated me. I saw the fall start with Sonic Adventure 2. Others saw the fall start with Sonic Heroes. I guess I lowered my dissapointment bar one game earlier than everyone else. Anyways, I think that Sonic and the Secret Rings is equivilent to Sonic Heroes, which isn't a good thing. You liked it, but many others did not, or at least not as much as the better Sonic games. I mean, it got around 70% in www.gamerankings.com, which is around what Sonic Heroes got, so that tells you something. A true Sonic game never gets reviews below 80%. Because Sonic and the Secret Rings did not get above 80%, it is considered, by many, to be one of the dissapointing games. If only Sonic went down with Sega, than none of this crap would have ever happened. Well, Sonic Adventure 2 would still exist, but at least none of the other, worse games that soon followed.

I, personally, found nothing wrong. The only one was the game's camera was focused on going foward. Which, if you play the game like that, is fine. I is a bit better in Knuckles/Rouge's stages.

As for Secret Ring, it's better then you thought. Critics are hard to trust any more. Look at Lair. No one could agree on a score. This game is similar. It's one critics hate, but Sonic fans love. It is a step in the right dirrection, and if they take some of the critism and try to make it more arcady (like the originals, no save) then we're good.

Programming for the satrun is a nightmare.

Regardless, this Project S is not Sonic Xtreme, and it will never be Sonic Xtreme not matter how hard you wish it so. Numerous fangames in a similar vein have been made, and those that dont completely suck are the exception, not the rule. I see no reason for this project to be any different, especially since I remember them talking about "project S" well over a year ago.

If you really a fan of Sonic, you'll want the half complete PC version of Xtreme made by SEGA released, not some fanmade fantasy.

I would just like to repeat that the videos available of Sonic Xtreme show us one of the ugliest, slowest and least entertaining games I've ever seen. This one looks better off not coming out.

Now Starfox 2 for the Snes. THAT'S a game we need to see released!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Is it possible to download the incomplete Sonic Xtreme on my computer? Damn you Sega for not finishing the game!!!

By the way, Star Fox Command, which is like Star Fox 2, came out on the Nintendo DS, and it got worse reviews than Star Fox, and Star Fox 64, so the fact that Star Fox 2 never came out isn't as bad as it may seem. I watched videos on Youtube, and the graphics were the best I have seen on the Super Nintendo, but to be honest, the game play seemed mediocre to me.

Yeah, but those were too entirely different games. And the reason Star Fox 2 didn't come out wasn't a quality decision. They had the game ready to ship, but cancelled it so they could focus on the N64 and it's Starfox game. The second one looks like it controlled like the first one. And a lot of people really liked the first one.
