Its stuff like this that makes me wonder why Wiis ability to sell third party software is discussed more than, well the PS3's. Especially considering the rift in quality and brand name between the two libraries. I mean VF5 and Ridge Racer vs stuff like Red Steel and Rayman RR? Ive always felt there has long since been a new champion of the "But can third party games sell?" trophy. The PS3, but its like noone noticed.
In all fairness, according to VGChartz, Madden 07 and NFS have sold more on PS3 than Wii even though the Wii has twice the PS3 userbase. A year old port of Oblivion and a 7 month port of R6V have each sold more than 100k, so I say 3rd party games are selling well on PS3 overall, there just needs to be less crappy ports and better development time from developers, i.e. online in VF5, etc.

Those games were launch titles. The Wii absolutely DID NOT have such a large advantage in user base at that time.

The last few multi-platform titles are more telling. Spider Man 3 on the PS3 initially outsold the Wii version; now the Wii version is selling better, and it's rapidly approaching the PS3 version (they're withing 10k now, or 7% of their total sales, and at this rate the Wii version will outsell it in total within a month or so). The most recent multi plat titles have been Harry Potter, The Bigs, and Transformers. Transformers has sold marginally better on the Wii (and is pulling away slowly), the Bigs has sold twice as well on the Wii, Harry Potter more than three times as well.

I'm willing to bet that Madden PS3 will outsell Madden Wii.

I've already taken that bet with someone else, but I will match it with you: I bet the Wii version will outsell the PS3 version. And luckily, I have recent evidence to support my hypothesis!

I'd be interested to know what your evidence is.

I.. already told you? The only thing to add to the list is Pirates of the Carribean, which sold terribly on all platforms, but better on the Wii than PS3. Of the last 5 games that have been multi-plat, 1 sold better initially on the PS3 but will soon be outstripped by the Wii verison, and 4 have already sold better on the Wii -- the lone sports title, "The Bigs," considerably so, at a 2:1 clip.

Or, put in a more effective way -- by the time Madden comes out, every multi-plat game that has come out in the last four months will have sold better on the Wii than on the PS3. In the case of the lone sports title, profoundly better.

The last games to sell better on the PS3 than on the Wii were the two games you mentioned; NFS and Madden 07. Both were launch titles, which means they were released when the Wii and PS3 had the exact same install base. 0.

I hardly call that evidence, an educated guess, but not evidence. No offense.

I guess we will wait and see though, there's no wrong or right at this point.

Educated Guesses are based on evidence, correct? That's how a guess becomes educated.

So I do agree that it absolutely is a guess. Obviously, any prediction of future events is, by definition, a guess. However, as you stated, some guesses are more "educated" than others, which is a euphamism for "some guesses are based on empirical or historical evidence, while some are not."

Otherwise, we agree. There is no absolute right or wrong at this point. Just more "educated" and less "educated" guessing.

Not necessarily but I see your point.

I don't know if you saw my edit or not, but I asked what about The Godfather and Splinter Cell? Those sold more on PS3 and were not launch titles, therefore not being the last 3rd party games to sell better on PS3 compared to the Wii's.

No, I did not see that. I made two statements, one of which was correct and one of which wasn't. The first time, I said that no PS3 multi-plat title had outsold a Wii version in 4 months; that's true. Again, this includes the only sports title to be released on both since the release of the systems. Then I said that no multi-platform game had sold better on PS3 than Wii since launch -- that is incorrect, as you pointed out. Godfather was released in March, 4 and 1/2 months ago.

Splinter Cell is a wierd example, because it was released in November for Wii (When it had a sub 1 million user base worldwide) and in March of this year for the PS3. The PS3 actually had a larger user base than the Wii when its version was launched. Not sure how to read that one, frankly. Still, Godfather should be noted. My second statement was incorrect -- thank you.

However, by the time of Madden's release, no PS3 game will have outsold its Wii counterpart in 5 months.

I will bet that the ps3 version will outsell the wii version 2 to 1 ratio. Why? First of madden sells best to the teenage community, also teenage community have no wii and not like wii, make wii sell bad :(

LOL. I recently started to give a damn about what you said, because most of your recent responses were very rational. However, you are back to square one. Just another narrow minded 14 year old.

I may be a "narrow" minded 14 year old, but I can prove it, you may believe me if you wish. My school has a population 4000 students. I have about 350 myspace friends, I asked 80 of my school friends what they would want if they can have any system, roughly 60% chose the ps3, and 30% chose the 360 with only 10% picking the wii. As for myspace friends

I even have a poll on my myspace, they can vote and 56% of the votes went to the ps3, about 42% went to the 360, and 2% went for wii. Again I have no little kids as friends on my myspace, nor adults, just teens.

Though I cannot find the site, but I think madden appeals most to the teenaged community, not the younger audience(to which most of the wii's install base is) nor the mature audience meaning ages 22+

Madden appeal to teenage and adult males the most.

A lot of people want a PS3 but either

1) Can't afford it

2) Can afford it but doesn't see the value of it

3) Are still dependent on their parents to buy it for them and therefore falling back into 1 or 2

The first point I would contest, as wealthier, more affluent families are generally purchasing the Wii, not the PS3 (which is odd, as you'd figure that poorer families would be unable to purchase the PS3, and therefore would buy a Wii as proxy). Otherwise, I agree.

You mean no games released in the past 5 months correct?

Just because wealthy families that can afford the PS3 are buying the Wii doesn't mean there aren't people out there that want a PS3 but can't afford it I have a buddy now that's working 2 jobs just to pay his mortgage and pay off his debt and student loans, the only next-gen console he wants is a PS3 but he can't afford it right now on his salary, he falls right into number 1.

Oh, I agree there are some, I'm just stating that it's not particularly common. Those who can afford Wiis or PS3s are, more often, buying Wiis. That's why I said it was a general trend, not an absolute one.

As to your other post: yes.
