Forums - Sales - First PS3 third party million seller

Its stuff like this that makes me wonder why Wiis ability to sell third party software is discussed more than, well the PS3's. Especially considering the rift in quality and brand name between the two libraries. I mean VF5 and Ridge Racer vs stuff like Red Steel and Rayman RR? Ive always felt there has long since been a new champion of the "But can third party games sell?" trophy. The PS3, but its like noone noticed.

I doubt any of those games will sell a million worldwide. I say the first PS3 million seller will be Final Fantasy XIII.

There's not enough of an install base for Madden to pull it off yet. Soon, mayhaps, but not yet.

Guitar Hero III may be able to do it.

If it can't, Lair will.

Who said that Resistance and Motorstorm weren't made by third party companies? Although I'm sure that Evolution Studios and Insomniac have close relations with Sony, it doesn't mean they're second party. It may have just been their choice to make games for the PS3, and Sony was glad to publish them.

As for Madden, I don't think its casual fans are scoping game sites to find out what the framerate of each version is. Madden will test how dedicated the PS3 userbase is, and I think it has a decent chance of a million.

I think Heavenly Sword, as it's made by Ninja Theory and not Sony.

Did Sony publish and distribute Resistance and Motorstorm? Yes they did. Therefore, they are second party.

Definition of a second party developer. "Contracts" include, oh, publishing and distributing a title.

Resistance and Motorstorm were both published by Sony. They are second party games.

Ninja theory is 1st party didnt you hear phil harrison announce there first party games, including uncharted, and insomniac another 1st party sony company. Sony owns those companies basicly. Since ratchet is a 1st party game.

Sorry, confused second party company with second party game. Man I'm so sleepy.

In all fairness, according to VGChartz, Madden 07 and NFS have sold more on PS3 than Wii even though the Wii has twice the PS3 userbase. A year old port of Oblivion and a 7 month port of R6V have each sold more than 100k, so I say 3rd party games are selling well on PS3 overall, there just needs to be less crappy ports and better development time from developers, i.e. online in VF5, etc.

The problem is that even if games sell better on the PS3, they would need to sell 3-4 times as much as a Wii game to make up for the development costs, and they're not selling in those numbers.

*Edit: Actually, PS3 games cost $60 each, so I have to take that into account. Too tired to do math...

It would be about the same actually since the extra 10 dollars for PS3 and 360 would be able to cover the extra development cost on those systems.
