Will the most successful current gen console beat the most successful console ever in sales keeping in mind that the PS2 hit 140m unit sales last year and is still selling huge.

I think if the Wii ran for 9 years it will probably outsell the PS2 but I think Nintendo will stop producing Wii in 2011-2012 and then concentrate on the Wii 2.

Also some of you might say why I said it will probably outsell the PS2 in the above paragraph.I said it because the Wii's demand is so up at the moment and everyone wants the Wii now but after some years the demand goes down and the sales go down as well.PS2 did a great job in maintaining that level of demand.

It will take a while for that to happen. PS2 was released in 2000 and is still selling strong. Its the only console from last gen that is still in production. For the Wii to outsell the PS2, it wold have to be in production as long as the ps2. Remember the PS2 still is planning to release more than 130 titles now and until late 2009.

Don't think it will manage it. I think the Ds will though.

And much like the DS, which snobcore gamers thought was underpowered, gimmicky, and shovelware-ridden in its infancy, Wii is only going to get started in its 3rd year. M+ and the best games of this generation are still to come.

No. Even if Wii surpass PS2 in sales but it would never has same market share as PS2 (70% I'm not sure). Remember PS2 are still selling well although it is almost 9 years. For DS, I think it will do it if Nintendo are not releasing new portable before 2012. I think new portable will be release around 2010.

Of course it will--do you have any idea how many aces Nintendo has yet to play? As detractors love to point out, the current quality of its' average game is... questionable. What happens when the quality gets up to a more acceptable level? How about new colours, its' first, second, and third price cuts, Motion+, and more aggressive advertising.

All that on top of the fact that it's already trending waaay above the PS2.

There will come a time, one day, when Nintendo looks at flagging Wii sales and says "Okay, boys, how much profit are we making per console and how much can we afford to cut back?"

When they ask that question, the Wii may have already passed the PS2, as terrifying an idea as that is. If it has not by that point, though, then that one change is what will bring the record crashing to the ground.

Or sell more in less time...

Good point. Then again the PS2 didn't deserve it either.
