Probably because the PS3 can´t handle spliscreen, and the co-op part sound plain weird :S

The shutgun with flashlight reminds me a lot to the good old Doom 3

Can't be it. Resistance 2 has online 8-player splitscreen and Killzone 2 should be able to handle more. I don't really care about splitscreen but some kind of co-op would have been nice.

So, first some people put KZ2 above anything, now, is on par with Resistance 2 ???

Probably the engine doesn´t allow spli-screen to keep up with the framerate, filters, and texture reslution...

The game is made to be no co op, i never use that option so i don't care.

Surprising there isnt even 2 player split screen O.o

No Co-OP = Me sad.

Still getting the game though.

Another interesting nugget regarding the game's resolution:

"we support a resolution which has lower vertical resolution, but displays 1080 lines. this is especially important for people who use 1080i on an older HDTV because the vertical upscaling of 720p can cause blurryness of the image, which is very noticeable, especially interlaced. the mode we use doesn't have that problem and it's slightly heavier than 720p (but not as heavy as full 1080p), but we have enough headroom to keep the framerate stable. It's not like we did full 1080p support, but we did do effort to make sure it looks good for those people who don't have upscalers or very ugly ones."

In the current era of games with a sub-720p native resolution, it's interesting that such a graphically intensive game actually has a native resolution over 720p.

Hopefully they will patch a co-op later.

This is interesting... so far we have thre choices...

a) They didn´t wan to make it co-op but they could add the splitscreen in the multiplayer...

b) They can´t do it because lack of time and resources...

c) They can´t because the engine and the hardware doesn´t support it...

So far they got a lot of money, and a lot of time, so ends up in preference (They don´t want to) and lack of enough power, for me looks more like the last one, practically every split-screen option of anygame removes details, objects and sometimes runs at slower frame rate to keep up the game at playable levels

This game is suppose to push the hardware, to show things that can´t be done on another system, and they have already stated that the game is going to run at 30fps @ 720p, sounds more likely that they can´t keep up with the detail, effects and framerate at splitscreen, rather than "well we don´t want so suck it..."

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

FJ-Warez:

Seb Downie actually explained why they weren't going to have split-screen in the game. It's in the Ask a Dev thread on the official board. I can't be bothered to trawl through the thread looking for it, so I'll just sumarise:

Every design decision they make will take a certain ammount of man-hours to do. It takes time and costs money. If they wanted to add in split screen, that'd require a lot of man-hours, and GG decided that their time and money would be better spent focussing on other aspects of the game.

So, B it is.

And before anyone wonders, I trust his word. He's very frank about the answers he gives.

  • There will be no co-op mode , and they are strict about it.
  • There will be no splitscreen mode.

They've just lost me as a potential buyer. I was disappointed with there being no co-op story mode in Resistance 2 but was more than satisfied with the splitscreen co-op/competitive online modes. But this is an absolute deal breaker for me in any shooter.

What if that part of the game sucks?    A game with a good singleplayer and a good multiplayer > a game with a good singleplayer, a gimped co-op and a good multiplayer.

Saying that I'm not a huge shooter fan is a gross understatement. I typically only enjoy ones with a co-op aspect to them. I had Resistance 2 since launch and have yet to try the singleplayer, I've been so addicted to the co-op.

But I completely understand your perspective here though. For fans of the shooter genre, I would agree, this wouldn't likely be a deal breaker in the slightest.
