Forums - Website Topics - A couple of website forum suggestions

I'll reiterate that an ignore feature would be nice.  Especially if the user that is being ignored can see in his profile how many people are ignoring him/her.  It would even be interesting to see it on the left side under the avatar for all users to see (those that aren't ignoring the person).

How about a way to ban users not from the whole site, but from specific forums?  In other words, if you have some Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo Troll that just can't seem to do anything but go into a specific area and troll but seems to be a valid contributor in their "native" forum, ban them from posting in that forum.  Gballzack, for instance, could have been banned to only be able to post in the "off topic" or something along those lines.

Have an Adults only forum.  There are an awful lot of screenshots available from M rated only games that are brutally violent or overtly sexual in nature.  Again, using Gballzack for an example, he/she could have been allowed only in there.

Rotating Avatars and/or rotating signatures.  Allow us to create more than 1 sig and/or more than 1 avatar photo and have the system randomly pick one each time it is displayed.   (this is a nitpicker)

Give us the ability to edit the titles of our own posts and also to delete them entirely.  This will eliminate double posting.

I'm sorry if these have been brought up in other threads, but some of the "suggestion" posts are getting really long and hard to go through.

Well its not like 10 year olds creep into the forums. They wont care about that stuff, as long as your 12 your fine :D

mM

Well.... M means 17 or over... Kind of like R rated movies and such. Not that anyone actually enforces it or anything in the gaming world...

Thanks,

You just made my point for me.  ESRB ratings, unlike the ratings at movie theaters, mean absolutely nothing since no one seems to bother paying attention and enforcing it.

hm, why is the goal of at least the half of your suggestions to enable gballzack to post nude pictures of herself?

no i'm just joking, most of your stuff sounds reasonable altough (in my eyes) not really necessary.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

I just used Gballzack as an example because he/she was the only one I could recall that went on/off banning for various reasons and probably everyone in the forum that is a regular has seen banned/unbanned. It didn't hurt that there was a nude picture posted as that obviously got a lot of attention, lol. Many forums have areas that are "free for all" to let the nutjobs have at it and get their 15 minutes without causing a stir in the (relatively) on-topic forums.

Iam down for the ignore button.

I don't think ignoring users is the right way to go. If any user is troublesome enough to be ignored by a large number of people, then they're troublesome enough for a ban.

Speaking of bans, banning from certain boards wouldn't be useful for basically the same reasons as above; if they're THAT troublesome, they should be completely banned.

Also, the signature/avatar idea is really a matter of bandwidth and expense. I don't run any site, but I know that signatures eat up a lot of bandwidth, which increases considerably with more users coming in to the site. Basically, the more perks you want, the more it will cost to run the site.

The editing feature is something that all forums need. However, with the edit feature there would be no need to delete your own posts. User enabled locking wouldn't be too bad, but this doesn't seem to be one of those forums that actually need such a feature.

Oh dear... all this commenting on other suggestions has made me forget my own -.- I'll post later if I remember it.

By life end:

  • Wii- 100 million+
  • Xbox360- 35~40 million
  • PS3- 30 million
  • PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
  • NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical)  - FAILURE
  • NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!

Please no ignore user button. If a user is annoying and likes to troll, they'll get banned sooner or later.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
