I was mostly poking fun at the fact that all there is anymore is FPS.

What platformers are there on XBLA? I'm curious. Also, BK:NT isn't a platformer. |
Lets see (of titles that aren't retro rehashes):
+ Community games platformers.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I should've known, looking at your Gamertag history, haha. Hard to detect sarcasm though sometimes (especially without the rolling eyes).
Don't forget that Mirror's Edge just came out and we're about to get Prince of Persia

HTF: False Alarm isn't a platformer. The characters may move on platformers, but all you do is flip switches to clear their path. It's better classified as a really crappy puzzle game.
well there's banjo other than that none...imo SMG was a fantastic platformer probably the best this gen.
I dont want to be fanboy anymore...Why? it takes to much work but i will call on ppl on there B.S!!!:)
The best platformer this gen is Braid.
A gem.
An excellent, brilliant game.

Eh, I never got the hype. It was just a hard time traveling game for me.

Platformers have been absent this gen, but with Banjo Kazooie and MS' attempt to get some casual marketshare, do you see more platformers on the way? I hope so. It's my favorite genre and I don't want to see it die. |
There is no change for a decent Jump&Run or "Plattformer" on the xbox360. Games like this don't sell on this plattform. And Braid is the only one you could count as good, but it is boring most of the time.
But there are many good games of this kind on the Wii (for example Mario Galaxy, de Blob, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Wario Land, Sonic Unleashed) and many more are announced for the next few month (Mushroom Men, Sonic and the Black Knight, Kore, Kloano: Door to Phantomile).
Platformers have been essentially replaced by Adventure style titles. I think in large it has to do with game size and presentation. Prince of Persia is hybrid and that "hybridization" kept the game fresh and fluid. It was chalenging in the old days to pretty much do run and jump style things. Despite the fact Hybrids like Castlevania were explored, it could often be difficult, espessially if the action countered the physics, like in Double Dragon and Astyanax. Nowadays unless you have the capacity to be really creative, a full-scale retail game would be really bland and akward (and probably really short too) without an added battle/fighting system tacked on. Probably why the werehog in Sonic, the fighting controls in Mirrors Edge, and Zelda was always a hybrid as well. IN 3D just jumping around an area isn't going to get much better than Mario64. I think thats one if not the main reason why Nintendo has taken many strides to add new things to their favorite plumber nad his games.
I dunno, what do yu all think about that.
