Forums - Gaming - GTA Delayed til Q2 2008???

Wow. Ultra-bombshell drops!

I wonder if this is good or bad for the PS3 or 360. Was likely to push hardware units of both, but more for 360.

This hands Nintendo this Xmas on a platter (if they didn't have it already). This is also the most high profile delay I have ever seen. Make no mistake, GTA *is* bigger than Halo.

Guess its good for other games, as gamers will need to get their fix elsewhere...

...

Its also a huge delay - the game must not be even close to done, heaps of bugs, engine issues. Kudos to T2 - a buggy GTA4 could have sunk the company (imagine the online patching that would have happened).

That basically means PS3 has nothing except for Lair and Heavenly Sword this fall, or have imissed something

yes you must live under a rock

While I do agree that the Wii is almost gauranteed a win this holiday season, there are still other releases to at least keep the Ps3 and 360 afloat (in regards to holiday sales).  I'm pretty sure Rock Band and Guitar Hero III are coming out November (though can't remember the date) and while I don't expect Rock Band to sell a lot of consoles, I can see GH3 at least selling a few.

Ratchet and Clank.

Though I have no idea how well that's actually going to perform.

anyone considered this could have links to sony's claim of easily being in the lead by march 08. perhaps rockstar has faith in sony and is waiting to release the game when the ps3 has a considerably larger user base

 I'm positive that it's just a coincidence.

Yikes. It's good that Take2 is pulling it back, no one wants a half-finished game (read: Hour of Victory). However, this significantly sacrifices the bonus in sales for the holiday season.

The PS3 and 360 DO have other games to fall back on, but this was a pretty huge one, if not the biggest release they were going to see this year. The Wii may have just been presented the opportunity to steal this holiday season.

The Wii was capable of it without this ....but now...good lord this should be an easy victory for them even without a bunch of stockpiled units. I think some minor stockpiling could get the job done for Nintendo this Holday..

Who do you guys think this helps/hurts the most (other than the Wii obviously)?

Uncharted, Hot Shots, Home, Warhawk, UT3, Haze, LBP demo (hopefully), Folksoul......bah, its just not worth it anymore

It definitely helps SSBB and SMG, they won't have any high-profile competition with Halo 3 being 2-3 months old already by then.

I think it hurts them both about equally.  I think the 360 was going to get more from GTAIV, but they're both losing a large amount of ground this holiday season.

*******
Why GTA4 is delayed ?

==> there are very big big frame rate issue and clipping
Rockstar has big problem to make their game running correctly.

*******
For me, it is most important news for this year so far !!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Good for the Wii,
==> 1 big reason to NOT buy PS3/Xbox360 since THE most anticipated game/system seller is delayed.

- Not bad for the Sony,
==> knowing the price of the 2 console, there was a HUGE risk that GTA4 will succed to push Xbox360 during holiday particularly in europe.
For example, a bundle, Xbox360 +GTA for 300$ or 350$ would have been amazing for the Xbox360 moving the big PS2 fan base in the Microsoft side.

- Bad for Microsoft,
==> GTA4 was THE BIG WEAPON to hurt Sony during this holiday with a better price with THE GAME.
NOW, who will care about the 2 exclusive episode since the whole game is delayed ?
For me, the Xbox360 will have good holidays in NA, but will fail in europe and japan, where the PS3 will succeed. Her last, chance was GTA4.
The last Xbox360 weapon is Halo3 but, alone, it will only move Xbox360 unit in NA (even if it will sell 6-7M copy worldwide, most of the sales will be in NA)
Bioshock is not a system seller because too much targeted game, and there is simply too much FPS this Xmas.
Same for Mass Effect (even more in fact)
Both can be amazing game, I m not sure they will sell a lot of system to "classic console gamer"
PGR4 maybe ? dont know ...
