I'm talking about SCEE. The gaming division.
I don't think Sony is going to die, I think Sony will get out of the console market.

When? Only time will tell.
Microsoft is far too strong, far too aggressive.

No, sony is not getting out. PSP2, PS4 are on the works

And why is good for the gamers if sony is out?

I agree Microsoft is aggressive

Sony will get out of some markets next year unless they get really lucky, you can quote me on that. Whether the gaming division will be one of the victims or not, that only Sony knows. But no business suffers a ~20% decline in revenue without tightening the belt (especially not one with 1% profit margins).

If you don't believe it now, just wait until January the 31st.

If Sony will cut in the game division, it will probably be selling game studio's first.
No way in hell they'll drop SCE, it has been too successfull in the past to just drop after two years. And PSP is doing fine. It would be very ironical if Sony were the one to cut its console business to go handheld only. Not that I expect that btw.
But first party software support could be dwindling fast, as already seen by the scrapping of Eight Days and The Getaway 3.

It's hard to speculate on what they would cut.

If I had to guess, I'd say they'd rather cut their music publishing and phone business than their gaming business. The question is if cutting those two off would be enough (along with cost savings in every division).

Things are eerily silent from Sony's execs lately, with no significant announcements since the last quarter ended (well except for the raising of prices in the UK). It's the calm before the storm. Actually it's not just Sony, I guess businesses want to keep the masses' morale up as much as possible for maximum holiday sales. Until next year, it's business as usual as far as possible, so get out these wallets and spend! :P

wii numbers drop? so either stores hoarding for black friday or consumers waiting for black friday

The wii is IN STOCK at every retailer right now, so i doubt the retailers are holding anything back.

Amazon stopped selling them a few days ago. Walmart only has expensive bundles on their website. Target's site is out of stock too I think.

Yeah, this is telling a different story:

You do realize that only 1 of those retailers is selling the Wii without bundled software or accessories at the MSRP, right?

Maybe they'd sell their games division. It's not unusal for a company to  "spin" off a division in hard times

EA or Acti-Blizzard could be interested in it if the chance arose. Maybe even an oddball like Toshiba or IBM, both Cell partners.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.
