So what you expected for Xbox 360?
It frikkin costs 189€.
vs 479e.
=290€.
You can buy both PSP and Ds with it.
Or buy Xbox 360 and Wii.
Parents are going "o my son needs that console which should I buy"? Hmmm Ps3 479€ geez or hmm XBox 360 for 189€.
Hmmm.
Hmm.

So? That doesn't change the fact that Wii and X360 are currently beating the hell out of PS3.

So you're still butthurt over being ripped to shreds in that thread where you said GT5 would only sell 4 million lifetime?

Prove me wrong! 4 millions seems a safe bet.

Impressive 360 sales once again.

Sony fans need to calm down. (and 360 fans as well)

I do not see the increasing 360 lead over the PS3 as that big of a deal in the long term. Third parties will need sales on both consoles to make back the huge HD development cost. Publishers are not going to suddenly dump development for a console with 22% market share to develop solely for the console with 29% market share.

Very good analysis.

Even if this beatdown that Microsoft is giving Sony (relatively) was to continue indefinately, the likely scenario is that 3rd parties drop exclusivity support entirely for the Playstation 3 - no Vs. XIII, no exclusive KH3 (if it came to PS3, and not the Wii), and so on.

In the end, it MAY help the X360 to see limited, continued support of a few 3rd party exclusives, here and there, which would primarily be X360/PC-centric titles.

If this leads to Valkyria Chronicles coming to the X360, as well as Vs. XIII, I am all for it :)

hell yea id like to see valkyrie chronicles  for the 360 would save me the cost of a ps3 wich i am still thinking about buying for that game come the next price drop

while i agree that the ps3 will recieve less exclusive support from third parties, i wouldn't call that a "likely" scenario. it's more likely that ps3 will still recieve third party exclusives regardless. the ps3 is a profitable platfom after all.

It's kind of hypocritical saying that MS's pricing is predatory, when the PS3 racked up $4+ billlion in losses due to underpricing of their PS3.

@ skee... But by then you will be able to get an arcade 360 for less than £100... and maybe a Pro for £129. The point is they are behind in the cycle... Sony cant catch up price wise and thats what matters when you start from such a high price point and the world economy is on its arse.

microsoft officialy stated no more price drop at least for next 5 yers.........they could shave off here and there but u wont be seeing a 99quid pro anytime soon..............all sony need to do is get thier console to an affordable price which imo it already is but thats jus imo...........everything else is there epecially games.........the 2009 releases just look awsome..................360 is selling more purly on a price issue and nothing more..........

So the more, better games and great new features like Netflix mean nothing to the world?

The 360 is a gaming machine.  It has more, better games (opinion yes, but a majority opinion).  I buy consoles for a reason.  I bought the 360 to game.  I bought the PS3 to play Blu-Rays and MAYBE the occasional game.  So you see, price is not the only determining factor.  The 360 has the advantage of GAMES and now price.  Not JUST price.

1. My point wasn't that the PS3 was performing better than the 360 , my point was there is still more desire for the PS3 than there is the 360 . The PS3 would perform far better at an equal price point , that can't be disputed.

2. Are you responding to my point or pulling stuff outa your arse ? . The 360's is highly dependant on it's predatory price point for it's huge sales , the further you push the price up the bigger the sales drop off you'll witness . For most of this year the PS3 was "destroying" the 360 with a much higher price point but it was combination of the 360 price cut (bringing it in the price range of the PS2/PSP) and the ecnomic situation which played to the PS3's disadvantage.

It can't be argued in anyway that the PS3 is outperforming the 360 in any tangiable way but what I am trying to demonstrate is the competetivness of the PS3 and it's sales potential ,the 360 has the advantage for now but it wouldn't take much more than a price cut to eat that lead away (obviously a price cut would have serious implications for Sony and is looking very unlikely until spring.)

1. Prove it. If there's more desire for the Playstation 3, why isn't it's sales increasing YOY for the holiday season? There's a point you can't say "oh, there's more potential there" when you have a system that is so inherantly expensive, that relatively few people buy it.

Furthermore, using the argument of "oh, it'd sell much better at the same price" is a very asinine statement. Yes, lets argue that a system with a Blu-Ray device, build in HDD and other costly features wouldn't sell better at the same price!

2. The Xbox 360 isn't at a 'preditory price'. That's the same statement Atari (and I want to say Sega) lobbied against Sony in the 90's when Sony launched a CD-based system for a scant $299.99 USD.

Here are the facts:

  • Microsoft delivered a feature-lite system
  • Sony delivered a feature-heavy system
  • Microsoft built the X360 in such a way that it could perform at very similar standards, despite the loss of features, against it's competitor.
  • Microsoft built their system to be cheap
  • Sony built their system to be expensive

Microsoft had the chance to include HD-DVD in the X360. They did not. Microsoft had the chance to include an HDD with every system. They did not. Microsoft has the chance to cut the Arcade SKU, but has not.

Every indication, since the X360 launched, has shown that Microsoft wanted to make a decently powerful system that could be affordable. That's not preditory, that's just intelligent businessmaking. That's something Sony used to do, but has, by every indication, decided not to do since the Playstation 3 was announced.

And guess what? Microsoft has been right at every step of the way - Nintendo too. Both are doing phenominally well by offering core gaming experiences at affordable prices - something Sony did great with the PS1/2.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

You were proven wrong many, many, many times. Clearly the only way to "prove" you wrong is to wait until the game comes out and sells 2+ million in its first week.

Even then I bet you'll still say it will only reach 4 million max.

As in go buy us some coffee.

http://speedhunters.com

Compared to last year.

Change in sales from 2 weeks before BF to 1 week before.

Wii gained 82%
360 gained 21%
PS3 gained 21%

Change in sales from week before to BF week

Wii gained 53%
360 gained 64%
PS3 gained 81%

This year

Change in sales from 2 weeks before BF to 1 week before.

Wii lost 2%
360 gained 27%
PS3 gained 15%

Looking at how things changed from last year to this year I predict the following changes for next week.

Wii gain 35% = 455K
360 gain 70% = 325K
PS3 gain 55% = 141K

_____________________

Couple of other things:

How can MS be predatory when the 360 in one more year on the market the price has dropped the same amount (some would say only 1/2) that the PS3 has dropped.  Sony tried to have the price war last year and MS said no thanks we will let you gain a little in 2008 before dropping price.

Wii is available everywhere and it has been available all month.  Was at a Best Buy today, TRU today and Target today in the Chicago area all of them have ample stock.  They have had ample stock for weeks now. This is why week over week you wont see the Wii jump Black Friday week like you did last year when Nintendo got big shipments to retailers for Black Friday and consumers flocked to stores to get them. This year consumers have had the ability all month to get a Wii.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
