Remember the "old" comment from Sony: the more units they sell, the more money they lose. Low PS3 hardware sales = higher profit!

(they just want that software to sell...)

Funny avatar! My girlfriend laughed :)

That's true, the less they sell the less money they lose. But when do we get to the point where economies of production scale turn into diseconomies of low production scale?

Humm maybe I should buy one then…

seriously though I think the numbers might get an adjustment later.

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Why is everyone talking doom about the PS3 suddenly! Everyone was like ''Hell, PS3 is gonna blast past X360 bigtime in '09''... Why is PS3 lost all of a sudden when it doesn't perform as well as it's competitor in ONE holiday season! I know Sony isn't happy with this! But lets not ignore the Power of the Cell */^... Once the price comes down and it gets a kick in the ass or two it'll perform healthier then it is now! Although I think it will never really catch the X360 Ww...

The best thing to come out of the low PS3 sales, is that no one will dare launch a console for over $400 next generation.

+1 !!

Personally I can't wait to see what happens next gen!!

@TheTruthHurts

In North America, I guess it´s already pretty safe to say the PS3 will never catch the 360.

Worldwide..who knows...but if it does, it won´t be before 2010, I imagine.

well 360 numbers were expected anyhow so im not to impressed with them...........ps3 numbers are very good when u consider surroundings.........if 360 was at ps3 price i doubt 360 wud even sell 50k worldwide...........i really dont understand all the sony fanboy panic its not the last yer of the gen..........sony are obviously going to price cut in 2009 and with the highly anticipated games in 2009 ps3 will b a winner...........the highly probable 2009 gt5 and ff13 wud nullyfy the 360 holiday boost easily ontop of that it wud eat into at least half of 360's temporary lead anyhow.........lol at those who claim doom on a console just becuse at that current time its not selling as much as rival.........360 wasnt doomed most of the yer was it.................grow up

If you look back to last year at this time, PS3 was gaining the holiday momentum on the 360 (I belive it won the holdiay season against the 360), it had a great looking "exclusives" line up for 2008 and look at the current situation. That's why I would tend to belive that maybe PS3 is having trouble, real trouble, this gen.

The price drop can't come soon enough that's true but please, enough with the "if 360 was at price of PS3 it would sell 50k worldwide" BS. This isn't the bizarro world (hint to my avatar and an excellent Seinfeld episode!)...

@ million... "guess how well the 360 would perform at the PS3 price point"

Dont you get it... ?

it ISNT at that price point and these products are games machines... oh and guess what you can play virtually the same games on both. so why pay more if you are mr or mrs average? why?

Are you trying to say price point is a non-factor , seriously ?

Skeeuk...

What the hell does what I told TheTruthHurts have to do with "growing up"?

So what you expected for Xbox 360?
It frikkin costs 189€.
vs 479e.
=290€.
You can buy both PSP and Ds with it.
Or buy Xbox 360 and Wii.
Parents are going "o my son needs that console which should I buy"? Hmmm Ps3 479€ geez or hmm XBox 360 for 189€.
Hmmm.
Hmm.

you blame MS for offering a equivalent product for a better price? I don't get your frustration. Are you angry, because the competition is cheaper? Well MS is profitable with a 170€ SKU, Sony is not, with 400€.

Geez why do you think I'm angry?I just typed answer to "lol at ps3 sales".

Sony certainly needs the Cell now... To calculate their way out of the financial hellhole they're in. They will most likely have their first monetary loss in a holiday quarter in years.

I bet SCE's employees are praying that they aren't the victims of the downsizing which is almost sure to come.

Doom and gloom? Yes, but it truly is what the available data is pointing at.

@ skee.... one word - momentum.

momentum was with ps3 last yer and only and only because of price cutting 360 momentum has gathered no other reason whatsoever, demand for 360 was becoming stagnant. as i predict it will also in 2009............consumers would purchase a hiigher price ps3 over a cheaper 360 but at this level of cheapness combine with a credit crunch consumers r purchasing a 360 instead. thats not to say ps3 sales r bad there actually good considering everything................its still early days ps3 is only 2yers old..................sorry for the lines.............im using ps3 bowser

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...
