Forums - Gaming - It's just silicon and plastic...

There are far too many posters on this site that are treating their console of choice like an endangered family member as of late. I've seen posters I thought were rational go off the preverbial deep end. As the title implies, its just an electronic device. I'll take it further than that. It is just an electronic device manufactured by a company that only cares about your money. They don't care about you personally. Sure we all have our favorite manufacturer of choice but lets stop pretending that they are any different than their competitors in the big picture.

At this point in the console race their are games to be had on all platforms. If you are so bitter and so angry about the games on another platform that you cannot enjoy your console of choice, maybe you chose the wrong console. If you can't recognize that games can be exceptional outside of your platform of choice, then please turn in your gamer cards and stop wasting our time.

I'm not going to call anyone out by name but you know who are. I have my preferences. I'm a Nintendo fan at heart. Is the Wii my favorite console? Nope the 360 is. Was the Gamecube my favorite console last gen? Nope the Dreamcast was. People need to start following the games instead the game manufacturers and then maybe they'd enjoy their hobby instead of having to defend their irrational attachment to a hardware manufacturer. Can everyone afford to buy every console? No, not everyone can. If you can't afford to buy more than one console then considering the game lineup of each console before hand can save you a lot of headache. Will you get all the top notch titles on your platform? Nope, but more than likely you have a friend that has that console. Ask to swap sometimes, they can play what they've been missing and you can do the same.

Okay rant over. I don't make many threads but I had to say something because VGChartz is becoming a less enjoyable place to post as of late. I've always liked the world view this forum provides, but as of late it feels like a juvenile shouting match has been taking place.

If SCE were to somehow go bankrupt, I would have no God of War, KZ2, Trico or Ratchet and Clank.

What makes you think people want their console to do well because they feel attached to it?

I have been saying this for months.

It really hit home when I got my triple though. All the fun I've had with that bad boy over the last month has proven that I don't give a flying fuck over sales, and as long as something makes you happy, it's not that serious.

I wish more people would take that same stance.

You got Rock_on_2008 saying he'd take a bullet for Sony, and people that treat Microsoft as if they're the star of their life, and craft these stories about how any game not on the 360 is performing "below expectations". Then there are the Nintendo people.... I won't even go into that.

But seriously. It's not that serious.

And I wholeheartedly agree with your closing remark. It is becoming less enjoyable to post here on a regular basis, and I find myself posting less, especially when the numbers come out, seems like people are crazy.

NO ITS HARDCORE GAMING!

HARDCORE GAMING IS A WAY OF LIFE YOU CASUAL!

and here I thought you were talking about women with breast implants and botox. Now I'm disappointed

Tsk, you guys who try rationalize everything should really just go out with friends and have a beer and talk about stuff like these.  Anyway I'll try as best as I can to appease your sudden fascination about one of life's greatest mysteries, human behavior and attachment.  You've felt attached to another person because they made you feel glad or happy at one point or another and for that you'll defend him/her to a certain extent this is reasonable and you will see this over and over.  The strange thing about this human behavior is that does not change be it the object you feel attached to is a person or a console, the fact that you feel gratitude for the countless of times that the object made you happy will still compel you to defend it when people talk garbage about your 'friend.'  This, people, is why there are myriads of people eager to grind your skull to the ground for talking shit about something they care so much about, they can't help themselves their subconscious compelled them to.  Don't try to rationalize it by saying people and consoles are very different things, to the subconscious they're the same thing.

Now go out drink beer with friends, if you're old enough that is.  Stop feeling the need to pick on every nuance our subconscious compels you to do without you knowing, if you try to control it you'll just end up becoming more and more alienated and nothing good comes out of it.

Smart man...

This guy doesn't wanna get banned. :P

@Kantor

SCE is NOT going out of business. I highly doubt that after making a profit on three platforms, (PS1,PS2, and the PSP), that they would fold up show because they lost money on one console.

@DMJ

Honestly I think there is generation of gamers that think the world will end if Sony isn't on top. Gaming went on after Atari and Nintendo faltered. If anything the fact that Nintendo's recent success should show that the PS4 along with Sony can be number 1 again.

It too good of time to be a gamer to be so damned bitter. I've got more good games than I have time for. I still have to finish Valkyria Chronicles. I just started TLR and IU. I haven't done the Gears 2 campaign on co op yet, etc. etc. The only reason I post on this forum as much as I do is because I can't play my consoles at work. I can sneak some DS play but I think someone would notice if I dragged in my TV and game consoles LOL

Damn did I just kill this thread?  Anyway to the OP's sig, "Fiery words fuel debate and debate yields understanding."  I don't think debates really yield understanding, some threads go on and on without being resolved and some morons manage to strike some cord with people and "wins."  There are actually very few people who knows anything and are aware of it, and you're not likely to find them on run-the-mill debates.
