The issue is convenience , if you had to clap your hands every 10 miles you drove your car to stop it from breaking down you won't be bothered too much but if your next door neighbour had the exact same car but didn't need to then you'd be going through a procedure that you otherwise may not need to for the same effect some one else gets effortlessly.

it's not a big issue but it's convenience you won't get unless you own a PS3 , gaming shouldn't require any effort other than playing the game itself.

Your example is silly:

  • You might clap your hands every 10-15 minutes while you would have to change discs every 10-15 hours.
  • You may have to clap your hands 5 times in one trip (depending on length) but you more than likely won't have to change your disc more than 3 times (4 discs).
  • Changing discs isn't a significant inconvenience.  Are you telling me Blue Tooth is crap since I can't have an IR or Universal remote that turns off my PS3 so I have to get up if I want to turn it off?

@Shadowblind For those of you who sit around all day doing nothing then maybe , but for some one who's been working/school all day or a combination of both it's a whole different thing.

My example wasn't meant to be taken so literaly I was only demonstrating a point , the clapping of the hands is really irelevant .

All I was trying to say is why would you opt for lesser convenience if you had the choice ? assuming that the games are identical ( PS3 is the lead platform ) 1 disc will always beat multiple discs  , I did say it wasn't a big issue but why experience a lesser level of convenience if you have the choice not to ? I can't fathom why you would try and counter argue ... yes it's a small innnonvienience but it's still an inconvenienve of some form. As humans we always progress towards lesser inonveniences it's not neccaserily laziness , it's in our nature  more durable clothing , Smaller Phone , Thinner/Lighter TV etc.

Your d**n straight I'd take the inconveniance. Burning those 0.00001 calories isn't gonna kill me. And plus think of the health benefits of moving your legs in a simultanious forward motion 6 steps. Thats like, 1.57 joules right there man! Think of the green side of it!  You'll also emit a .027 increase of CO2 into the atmosphere, thus helping plants and trees to grow as well.

Boy, you must be some sorta anti-environmentalist if you think otherwise.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

A lot of people seem to be ignoring one major issue.....game genre.

For some games like linear level progessive FPS games multiple discs is a a swap every few hours. RPGs it would not be.

I'm playing through FFXII some now, and I am constantly backtracking doing quests, jumping through multiple areas in minutes.

If this game was multi-disc I'd be needing to swap the disc every 1-3 minutes at points. Sure, doing the main story I guess I'd stick about in each area a good while, but when it comes to the smaller quests which do make up a large bulk of game, swapping discs constantly would be a real pain in the arse.

Didn't FFVII, FFVIII, and FFIX have multiple discs and backtracking?

After a certain point on the final disc, the backing tracking was very limited.

I could understand calling it an inconvenience if you had to do it often but if it's once something every 10-15 hours it's not an inconvenience.  To me picking that as the lesser version is as silly as saying BluRay is the worse format because the cases aren't the standard size.

Multiple discs is really just a moot point.  I'm not calling it a small inconvenience, I'm calling it a non-factor.

WTF? The entire game of siren is less than 5gb why would the install be more than 5gb?

For N.A., the download via PSN (the only option N.A. users had) was almost 9 GB.  When installed from a disc, the space was 5 GB while playing with a disc.

...and it was a real pain in the arse, to the point I didn't bother buying 2 of those 3.   Also I found that they were limited on some smaller quest options/expanses.

You had to switch discs?  I admit I didn't bother with VIII or IX but I don't remember ever having to switch discs with VIII (though that was many years ago).

So moving occasionaly = Not moving at all ?

Illogical much , that is what you mean when you say non factor.

No, I just don't really see it as an inconvenience.

  • Are light switches inconvenient?  Why isn't ClapOn used everywhere since that would be the obvious superior item.
  • Are shoelaces inconvenient?  Why doesn't everyone have velcro straps on their shoes or no straps at all?
  • Are button down shirts inconvenient?  Why doesn't everyone just wear really nice T-Shirts?
  • Is carrying around cash inconvenient?  Why doesn't every place accept only credit/debit cards?
  • Is going to someplace like Best Buy less convenient than shopping at their online store?  Why do we still have brick and mortar stores?

There are things all over the places you could be uber-nitpicky but in the end people just don't care and it's a non-factor.  What we have with people making a huge deal over multiple discs is just fanboys trying to overreact and make something a big deal that isn't a big deal.

Actually, we can bicker about this all day and get absolutely nowhere. Lets wait until reviews and we'll see how many reviewers bitch about it being on multiple discs (because we all know the game will be on multiple discs).

I would be willing to bet that most reviews won't consider multiple discs any kind of factor.

-edit-

Also, I'm not denying that multiple discs is an issue for you.  God knows I have silly gripes so I have no right telling people that their gripes aren't real for them, I'm just saying it's not an actual issue that should significally affect anything for the majority of people.

I expected this since the Cross Platform announcement at E3.... This isn't and wouldn't be a surprise to anyone really, nor an issue. I'm guessing 4-6 Discs. 6 TOPS.
