Forums - Gaming - Multi-Disc Final Fantasy XIII On 360 Looking Likely

Anyone who bought The Last Remnant on Thursday will have noticed one blatantly obvious thing, it comes on two discs. Now, this might not be that concerning to too many people, but it could hint that this could be the way things will be done in the future.

As everyone is now aware, Final Fantasy XIII is being released on the Xbox 360, as part of Square Enix's new "let's make money" strategy. It's more than likely that Final Fantasy XIII will dwarf The Last Remnant in size, and if they couldn't compress that game down, it is likely that they will struggle for Final Fantasy XIII as well. The only thing that might discount this, is that The Last Remnant was developed using an external engine (Unreal 3), whereas Final Fantasy XIII is being developed using Square Enix's own Crystal Tools.

People joked a lot about the amount of discs Metal Gear Solid would need if it were ever released on the 360, and this might start up all over again now that people have seen The Last Remnant.

Concerning the Playstation 3, well The Last Remnant is said to be coming on one disc, and there is even talk of the Japanese voice work being included too; so it doesn't look like there are any storage issues there. This will probably hold true for Final Fantasy XIII, but the question is; how many discs will Final Fantasy XIII actually need on the 360? Your guess is as good as mine, but if they use similar compression on Final Fantasy XIII as they did on The Last Remnant, you're probably looking at 3-4.

So what if it comes on multiple disks..?

What if FFXIII comes on two blu-rays? Then you're looking at 6 to 8 for the 360.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

Oh i did a mock up of this just for kicks sometime ago on pshop.. The thing is that FFXIII looks like it will have a lot of hi res CG FMV and thats whats gonna take up a lotta space.  Last Remnant all the cut scenes are ingame

What I am more worried about is SE cutting the Japanese voice purposely on the PS3 version just so the two games could be 'equal' even though there is more than likely room on the PS3.

That would piss me off beyond reason and is likely to come true.

So?

Final Fantasy VII was three discs, Final Fantasy VIII was four discs, Final Fantasy IX was four, and on the 360, Lost Odyssey has already been four discs. Which begs the question...

So what?

Isnt really an issue anymore

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Lost Odyssey is my favourite rpg in this gen at the moment and thats on 4 discs. I dont get your point?

It all comes down to which has more content or slight edge on graphics. If they are both the same, number of discs wont be an issue, if the ps3 version turned out to be worse, framerate/choppy textures , id get the 360 version

Also if it came out first on the 360 first id get it the game on that.

I do plan on getting the ps3 version providing its at least on par with the 360 version(content/features/graphics) mainly because im lazy and dont want to swap discs, but being multidisc is not really an issue if i didnt have the choice. And partly because im scared that my xbox would conk out due to hardware failure especially if i sink 100+hours into the game.

Only time will tell i havent pre-ordered the game for a reason, im about 95% sure im going for the ps3 version, I'd have to wait for more information to be 100%.
