Forums - Gaming - 3 magic words "NO MORE RROD" will you get a 360?

So you mean the new Xbox 360 have no more RROD ( completely ) ?

Pretty much. I have to keep repeating myself because people are in denial or rampant fanboys are trying to spin the subject (but failing ever more so).

On a newer model, you're not going to RROD if you keep your system in a ventilated area like a system should be in. If you're a dimwit (not you, but in general) who likes to keep in on the floor somewhere near all your cables where it's very dusty etc, the that's your fault. My friend did that, and it took him a year and a half to RROD on a LAUNCH console (the bad consoles). I've had a launch console on the table in the middle of my room, and it has never had a problem.

On top of almost non-existant RROD, installing games on our HDD prevents hot air from being emited by the 360, it's as if it's not even turned on. The disk doesn't even spin, so if you have an old model with disk problems, that saves your ass, too! And let me ask you this; if no hot air is being released from the 360 (me and a roommate played for more that 12 hours a few days ago, all these new releases can do that for you on a shitty day, and the 360 was still quiet and cold as if it wasn't even on) then how will it RROD? RROD is caused by the hot air, 360's fan isn't as big as the PS3's internal fan.

You guys have nothing to worry about. In a month or two, when this becomes mainstream and people let it sink in, I'm going to look back and laugh..

:P

RROD seemingly will never be over. I was just in GStop yesterday and a customer came up to me trying to see what could be done about his 360. I asked what was wrong with it and he told me those Red light reared their ugly head again. I began discussing with him how MS has the 3 yr warranty plan and that the early models were commonly guilty of this. He then told me that he bought his system LAST WEEK!

The system is just inflicted with an incurable disease that was brought on by MS trying to jump the Sony train by coming out a year earlier. Mass Effect is the only thing that even has me look in the 360's direction, but 200 bucks is a hard pill to swallow for one great game. I know I get on Xbots a lot about this but......hoping on a PS3 port of the game so I can rest in piece.

I'd like to know what the current failure rate of the 360 is.

Seriously, aren't these excuses getting a bit old? It's always:

"well my friend/roomate/sibling/mother's uncle got RROD last week from a brand new 360.."

Stop lieing to yourself. I haven't even heard of newer RROD problems on new models for the longest time now, the most recent 360 problem was a guy that dropped his 360 and jammed his disk tray.

@Infamous: The anonymity of the Internet makes this statement possible. I could just as easily say my cousin's Wii broke on him, but since the problem is less of an issue I'd have less people believing me.

Anyways, it would be cool if Microsoft released numbers for the current failure rate.

I will let that slide becuase you seem new and obviously know nothing about me. But here is the thing.... I WORK AT GAMESTOP! So yea, i have a lot of those "Well i was at Gstop the other day..." stories to tell, becuase it is my job. You don't have to believe it if you want, the fact of the matter is I will not be buying one because the failure rate is simply much to high (more then double, maybe even triple, the PS2's failure rate). So much that GS had to stop insuring them with customers because it seems everyone was getting RROD.

You might be completely trustworthy but I have two general rules when talking about Gamestop:

  1. Never trust Gamestop employees
  2. Trust Gamestop managers even less.

I'm sorry, but Gamestop just seems to attract the dumbest people imaginable.  I'm not saying that's you (because I do know some awesome people that knew their shit that worked at Gamestop), I'm just saying that's my general rule with Gamestop.  Some of the funniest stories I've ever heard start with A Gamestop manager said... and I've actually had Gamestop employess argue with me, knowing full and well that I work for Terminal Reality and work on Ghostbusters, that Ghostbusters was absolutely cancelled and would never be released.  I even overheard one employee tell a customer that the 360 version was due to be dropped so they should only reserve the PS3 version and buy a PS3 if they don't already have one (and this was shortly after the game was announced).

Again, no offense to you, but I rarely trust anything Gamestop employees or managers tell me and trust them even less when it's over the internet.

MS has pretty much bred the RROD out of newer models of the Xbox360.

On top of which, sometimes it was the fault of the user, anyway. Way to stick your Xbox360 on a crowded shelf with no ventilation, geniuses. Sometimes, people need to stand in front of a mirror when they outstretch their arm pointing at whom to blame.

I have a brand new Xbox360, and it sits on a wire shelf, on it's side, with all ventilation ports clear for the cooling. I play the system for a couple hours at a time and have yet to touch it and find it to be unusually warm. The N64 rests below it. I know the RROD is pretty much "ancient history," but I'm still taking precautions where my X360 is concerned. I take care of all my consoles. They all have necessary breathing room.

So do I... I have my original Atari 7800, NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii and of all those systems the only one i ever had a problem with was my GC, but that was because my sisters friends were over one day playing Melee and must've accidentaly opened the lid or hit the lense because it wouldn't read any of my discs, including Eternal Darkness which was brand new at the time.  Sent it in to Nintendo and got it back less that 2 weeks later free of charge (cuz it happened less than a year after launch).

Now as for the 360, same thing like you said, i keep it in a well vented place, i dont play on it for more than 2-3 hours straight, i dust it usually once a month so it doesn't build up, and yet, out of the blue, without any warning or any kind of issues prior, i get the RROD.  So this can't be just some isolated incidents blown out of proportion.  Oh by the way, mine wasn't an original model... i purchased it right before X-Mas last year, it's manufacture date is 10/25/2007 and it's an Elite with the Falcon board.  So for this kinda thing to keep happening on a regular basis there's no way it could be just from user abuse alone, because my friend's 360 takes a way bigger beating than mine ever did and his still hasn't RROD'd (he has an Elite with the Zephyr board purchased in summer of '06), and yet my cousins is the exact same model and his got the RROD back in April.

Looks like it won't be long now...
