Forums - Gaming Discussion - Reporting Someone for Piracy

Did you send Microsoft the letter? I'm assuming you did. If you didn't, just go ahead and do it now.

I'm tired of this crap. I dislike idea of bootlegging as much as anyone but you don't have to snitch the guy out. Everyone has pirated one thing or another in their lives.

If there's one thing I dislike more than bootleggers, it gotta be rats that would go to extremes to snitch someone out.

Piracy is piracy, everyone that has a computer does it.
You're essentially screwing one guy over to protect a major corporation. Unless you are actually invested or work for the company, I'd say just leave it alone. It's just my opinion, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to be reported for all the stuff I've downloaded "illegally" on my PC throughout my life.

As far as this guy is concered, someone will eventually catch him if he continues to advertise anything "modding lessons" or illegal distribution.

I have a bit of a problem with the bolded statements.  I see this on a fairly regular basis among people who pirate games, software, movies, etc.  Pirating is stealing, whether you like to think so or not.  In order to make this type of behavior okay, people who steal rationalize their actions with the "everyone else is doing it, why shouldnt I"  mindset.  The fact is ... there are are a lot of people out there that live honest lives.  Not everyone steals, so quit blaming others for the decisions you have made.

So the truth comes out in one simple sentence. "I care about people not getting things for free that I pay for."

You don't care about the industry, about the little guy, the new developer. You're just the jealous type.

LMAO, I am jealous? Sorry, no, I could pirate if I wanted to, but I choose to purchase my products legally and SUPPORT THOSE COMPANIES WITH MY MONEY.

Congrats, but you're still self righteous guy in a costume handing out fake parking tickets, and calling 911 because somebody parked without putting coins in the meter.

Nope, wrong again, I am an average citizen that follows the law and does the right thing by reporting those that choose to break the law...

At ease citizen *salute*, so how do you feel about the buying and selling of used games? Because Gamestop screws over the developer waaaaaay more than any modders do, and people buying used games are taking way more from the industry than any pirates do. But you just keep your rape whistle close and blow anytime somebody does something bad. Microsoft, the cops, and the FBI will probably give you a little certificate and a teddy bear with "World best honorary agent" stitched into the little pillow sargent fluffers is holding.

Actually, what Gamestop does is completely legal first off. Secondly, any product that is purchased legally can be resold by the person that purchased that product. That crap is like saying that people can't resell their used cars because the manufacturer doesn't make any money off the transaction. Your arguments make no sense and compare apples to oranges.

It is nice to see there is at least one other person on this site that sees the truth.

I never said it was illegal, I said it was harmful. Clearly you don't care about the realities of actions, merely the arbitrary distinction of right and wrong. Daddy told you it was bad, so if somebody does it go and tell an adult straight away. It exemplifies that you don't actually care about supporting the developer, or the industry, or helping the little guy...as long as screwing them isn't illegal. It's your incredibly naive black and white reality, and the ridiculous self righteousness that goes with it that is pissing everyone off. You claim to support the developers, pirating hurts the industry, blah blah blah, but you don't give a rats ass about any of that. You're just pissed that somebody is getting away with something, and that cannot be! And that is just as disgusting as any pirate.

Actually, you seem to be the only person "pissed off." Secondly, learn to spell the word "right" correctly. Thirdly, changing the argument to Gamestop makes no sense and is not on this topic. Fourthly, if everyone is like you and looks the other way then no crimes would ever be stopped. Oh, and I am a grown man, I do not run to mommy and daddy pal. I am not 12 years old like you seem to be. I am old enough to be almost finished with my second college degree, which also shows that unlike you I have a real education.

"If you don't like me, bite me!"

Hahaha, this thread is rediculous. I have been browsing these forums for a while now but this OP required my registration to reply to.

First off, you don't seem to have any grasp regarding the laws surrounding the issues. Even IF you did try to report this to authorities (if you do, please videotape it and upload it to youtube for the satisfaction of millions) lawyers, police and FBI would laugh at you deliriously before kicking your ass out of the office. To put it as simply as possible;

1. Modding a system is not illegal.
2. Offering knowledge that is publicly available over the internet is not illegal.
3. Offering links to free software provided it is not hosted by you is not illegal.

Everything stated within the advertisement was obviously worded by someone who understands the legal loopholes of the matter. If you were truly so concerned about the issue then why aren't you crusading against the millions of emulation sites that offer tens to hundreds of thousands of downloads a month?? In fact, speaking of which, why are these websites not yet shutdown to begin with?? They have been around for years and attract millions of visitors, surely authorities and publishers would have taken notice by now?

The reason is (aside from foreign hosting in countries with lenient copyright laws) is that there are numerous legal loopholes these individuals or businesses can exploit that effectively provides them with a license to pirate. I suggest you familiarize yourself with the legal matters surrounding the issues before you get laughed at by authorities.

Second, I do not believe that anyone deserves to have tens of millions or even more dollars in wealth regardless of what they have accomplished. As long as there are billions starving, no company CEO deserves a wealth that is effectively unlimited for generations to come. Nor do I believe that video game publishers (or the ENTERTAINMENT industry as a whole -ones providing shallow entertainment to relatively wealthy westerners) would be the first to deserve the aquisition of such immense wealth, in a time when famous humanitarians, influential speakers and revolutiuonary thinkers are paid penny's for their major contributions to society.

There are plenty of people that are annoyed at what you are doing because of why you are doing it. See we use the word 'snitch' because of it's negative connotation. If we respected what you are doing we would use a word like 'reporting.'

Actually, I never even posted what exactly the advertisement said so you cannot even begin to interpret it. Secondly, bypassing copy protection on hardware is illegal. I guess you are the one that doesn't know the laws very well. Also, the guy specificly states in the advertisement that he can mod the console to play downloaded "burned" games.

"If you don't like me, bite me!"

For a guy with a college education, you don't have much in the logic or reading comprehension department.

Let me break this down for you.

You=self righteous. You claim that you support the industry with your hard earned dollar, because you want the developers to thrive and be rewarded for their hard work.

You claim pirates are filthy criminals. They harm the industry by not supporting developers, and hurt the little guy trying to start a new studio. They are obviously douchebags that don't care, unlike you who wants the developers to succeed.

Gamestop hurts developers waaaay more than any pirates do by encouraging people to trade in their games so they can be resold, they make a tidy profit, the developer gets screwed in the ass. Gamestop=legal pirate ring

You=morally fraudulent. You don't care if gamestop is harming the industry because there is nobody to tattle to about it, nobody cares, you don't get a good feeling inside of telling the authorities that they are hurting somebody. You don't care about the industry despite your crusades to stop the bad guys. You only care about your self righteous crusade to stop people from getting things easier than you do, which just eats you up inside. Of course if they spent 50 dollars buying used games at gamestop, thusly screwing over everyone you are supposedly fighting for, you wouldn't care in the least would you? But 50 dollars for a modded X-box? Just wrong.

Second, clearly you're pissed off. You posted on my wall that I'm "the biggest douchebag on this site". I guess you did it there because if it's on the wall it's not against the rules, but if it was on this topic you'd be banned for it. And you don't want to break any rules now do you?
