Forums - Gaming - Whats with these 360 JRPGS not being polished?

Well its always subjective, but I can assure you that you are in the minority about your dislike of Nobuo Uematsu's score in LO. It is only 2nd to FF8 in my book.

My pre-order of Last Remnant have arrived, staring at me to bring it home to pop it in! :)

So according to your premise, Star Ocean: The Last Hope is gonna be a crappy title? if that's true then MS's moneyhatt and SE's greediness is gonna ruin a fine franchise, and i would hate to see that happening because of that...

By polished I mean all aspects of the game perform in harmony: graphics, music composition, storyline, battle system, etc.

Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, now The Last Remnant (havent played Tales)

About 5 hours into The Last Remnant, I feel like im playing a modified FFXII.  Maybe more time will change my mind but Im starting to get that Infinite Undiscovery vibe about this game...which isn't good.

Let's see:

  • Blue Dragon - Wasn't perfect, but it's the definition of polished. Awesome Uematsu musical score. Battle system was tight & innovative. Story was mediocre, but how many Playstation 2 RPGs were too?
  • Lost Odyssey - Unreal Engine 3 based. Most UE3 games not made by Epic have had one trouble or another in the graphical department. Despite the flaws that UE3 brings, the game is a very solid experience, and most X360 owners enjoyed the game. And Uematsu's score is (again) awesome. His theme for the Thousand Years' Dreams was excellent.
  • The Last Remnant - Haven't played it, but it is UE3 based. It was also Squares first UE3 game.
  • Infinite Undiscovery - Like Eternal Sonata, it was the basis for another game. Wait till Star Ocean 4 comes out to see how polished a IU-esque game can be :)

Also, your profile does not say that you've played Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia or Eternal Sonata - all quite polished. Tales of Vesperia is the best JRPG on the X360, IMO, and possibly one of the best for any system.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

When you get use to the game play after some time you will love it for sure.

You should play Tales, Mr. Domino. It'll make you very happy. =D

Eternal Sonata looked awesome though.

I really think SE just lost it. FFXII was just horrible and now The Last Remnant doesn't look to really have an identity.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

I love infinite undiscovery.. its the only RPG that I've every replayed 3 times..

I hated it at first but 4 hours in the game it starts getting better even though it has shroddy bits..

Its also easy to argue that Mass Effect, Oblivion IV Elder scrolls and Fallout 3 lack polish..

If you owned a ps2 and /or ps1 and still were able to write that, I'd have to say that your fanboy goggles have really increased in size.

I can't comment on Blue Dragon since I've never played it, but Lost Odyssey was fantastic. I also wholeheartedly disagree about the score for LO. I think it's one of the best scores for a game I've heard this generation.

And how many of the Xbox 360 JRPGs have you played at length, in order to make that statement?
