Forums - Gaming - Hey is 1500 / 256 good internet?

well i know use will probably laugh at this but my deal before the upgrade, like the one im on now, i s 256 kb / 64kb

how crapy is that, n i can still get 3 connection on cod4 lol, with this speed im on, i download at about a max of 26kb, and a low of 22kb.
so this speed will probably seam heaps quick for me.

ok awsum...

what does upload speed do? and how come the numbers ( eg 1500kb / 256 kb ) are always higher than the actual download speed? (190kbs)??

200ms? what are ping times?

200 milliseconds. Ping time is the time it takes one packet of info to travel till and fro server/machine via the connection. Ping times of up 4-500 were common in the ISDN and dial-up days, something that would entail a half second delay, which would be significant (to say the least) in FPS games like CS for instance.

Anything below 100 ping is acceptable for most games and anything below is a decent bonus imo.

ahh ok

1.5mps / 256kb is hypothetical, you speed varies depending on the copper distance from exchange.

1.5/256 is decent for anything outside of the major city and 'urban' residential zones.

Depending on where you live, certain service provider will have adsl 2+ while others don't, check with the big one's like TPG and Internode or go to whirlpool.

I think my internet is 1.3mpbs download (about 160kb's downloading)

I don't know if you are, but it seems people get confuse with the units. Connexion speeds are usually in bits per second, and files in bytes

1 Byte (B) = 8 bits (b)

So, 1.3m bits per second is pretty close to 160k Bytes per second.

I don't think it's Kb's (Kilobyte) I'm pretty sure its kbps (kilobits per second) so 1500 kbps or 1.5mbps and 356 kbps, and all your upload speed means is that's how fast you can upload something to the internet. So 256 kbps is something like 31 kbs for you to upload a image or video on the internet.

i just went onto a site to do a ping test for my speed of 266kb / 64 kB (26kb download speed) and it said my ping is 361.2, and i can still play games online with it lol... i gues mine should be around the 200's when i get it upgraded to 1.5mbps / 256kb
