Forums - Gaming - What the **** is up with Gametrailers reviews?

I never trust reviews, and never have. I rarely read them, but I very often watch the reviews on Gametrailers, for pure entertainment. While I don't really trust their score, they sometimes clear other things up for me, so I enjoy watching them for games I'm interested in.

That said, what the hell? More often than not, they go around talking about a game, focusing mainly on it's good points, and then they turn around and give it a bad score, and vice versa. I just saw the Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts reviews, and he hardly had anything good to say about it all, besides the graphics, yet it gets a 6.7. In my opinion, he practically talked about it as if it should be a 2.5 or 3, and I just don't get why they either praise a game like crazy or flame it like crazy, and then the score doesn't seem to reflect it at all. Does anyone else feel this way about Gametrailers' reviews, or reviews in general?

OMG THERE SONY FANBOYS THAT GAME IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lmao thats how stupid you PS fanboys sound yelling and screaming about when a game gets a lower than average review.

Might end up picking this up for 40$

EDIT:@numonex

Some people would give the reviewer a fair shake, while most (with their 20-second attention spans) would just stop reading reviews altogether. Works for me. :P

But as I said, the marketing machine would rather do away with reviews themselves than the scores.

You should see GAMESPOT... it is even wroth than that....

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

I think that for a review like Banjo, when talking they talk comparing it to past Banjo games. The score though, is uneffected by past games and goes on that game alone. Just imagine if GT5 was only mediocre... the reviewer would be disguisted that it was so far below the level set by the series and would say lots of negative things, but in reality it would still be a decent racer so he may give it 6.5 or 7

Bet With routsounmanman: By the end of Q1 2008 Capcom WONT have announced a RE5 Wii Edition OR a new RE (classic gameplay) for the Wii (WON)

Gametrailers are one of the best reviewers. I love 'em. I like that Geoff Keighley dude.

Geez.. you just gotta love Rare's way of making grafix.

I love GT reviews there entertaining to watch. I only slightly care about metacritic scores because it shows on average if the game is like by reviewers or not.

Perhaps the game is simply not good?

What I do not like about reviewers (IGN in my case) is that they could praise a game in its previews and all the "hype" leading up to it, but when the actual review comes, the score assigned to it is nothing like we've been lead to believe.

Other times, we get reviews that do not dwell on the gameplay, which the only reason you buy a game, to play. Game=play, Game+Play=Gameplay. The worst part is when a games strengths/weaknesses are looked over or in some cases exaggerated. It is hard to avoid doing either, but after reading the review for Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World and seeing it get a 6.7, I lost alot of the respect I barely had left in reviewers in the first place.

i agree with other ppl on this thread, reviews are getting more and more undesirable.

the best review is ur own review and what u feel will get ur moneys worth out of a specific game.

just because someone else doesnt like a game doesnt mean u will and vice versa.

the recent edge resistance 2 review was awful, edge`s review system is heavily toiletised...........
