Forums - Sony Discussion - Target NOT going blu-ray exclusive

Universal going neutral doesn't change that much, the reasons for going with hd-dvd would still be there.

- Better selection of titles on HD-DVD today.

- No reasonably priced BR standalone players with full feature set.

- No expensive BR standalone players with full feature set.

- More mature platform. (BR is still changeing specs)

- No regional codeing on HD-DVD

- Extra nasty copy protection to be implemented on BR.

- HD-DVD has the support of more studios than BR.

-Some BR exclusives are released on HD-DVD before BR

Dude/tte, are you being serious?

Around the Network

Apart from some great release by Universal, Warner have released more content on HD-DVD than Blu Ray. Overall I think the movie selection on HD-DVD is better. People with both players tend to have more HD-DVD discs than Blu-Ray.

Blu Ray on paper has much better major studio support than HD-DVD, although with FOX/MGM going AWOL the difference isn’t that great. HD-DVD has the support of the greater number of studios, because it’s much easier for smaller studios to get content on disc.

Films have different distribution agreements across the world, meaning that a Blu Ray exclusive in the US might be HD-DVD exclusive in Europe or elsewhere. In some cases films there are Blu-Ray exclusive in the US are being released region free on HD-DVD ahead of the Blu-Ray release.

Thanks for your reply. This is surprising, given the many back-and-forths of this and related Blu-ray vs HD-DVD threads here.

I just hope you don't get thrashed by the Blu-ray camp!

This format war is just a sham Toshiba and Sony took advantage of when gamers started to take sides.
