Forums - Sony Discussion - Target NOT going blu-ray exclusive

Sony caved into Toshiba for DVDs, so it's only fair Toshiba caves this time. Sony will then cave when it comes time for 3D holographic cubes.

better off with two formats. Then hopefully by the time one of these finally become mainstream hopefully someone will have completely cracked the ridiculous DRM on these discs. Or another DRM free format will emerge.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Well the only Stand Alone HD player Target will sell is still Blu-Ray.

You shouldn't just write off Toshiba and HD-DVD. After all, even after they lost out to VHS Sony made quite a lot of money out of Betamax. If Blu-ray wins out, HD-DVD might well still find a niche.

So long as DVDs are still made I'm not buying jack from either format. I don't particularly care or want my discs upgraded right now, they're fine as is.

The key to end the format wars is Universal annoucing they will support Blu Ray, not Toshiba giving up. When that happens, it's over.

Also, what do you expect Toshiba and Universal to say? They are holding on the the fact that the 360 HD DVD add on is still being sold and that players are still sold online. Lemme see, what's gonna sell more, a player you can get at a store or something you can only get online?

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Did target ever sell stand alone HDDVD players?

Actually, this retraction, which doesn't really look like a retraction as far as I can tell, is less important than the actual news. Even if it isn't true, more than a few people heard about the Target news, and it certainly didn't benefit the HD-DVD camp in anyway. The more bad news for HD-DVD, the more good news for Blu-Ray.

In any case, the news is still the same as I interpreted it. Blu-Ray will have the endcap and Target will sell only the Sony standalone player (and with regards to at least one of these things Target contacted Sony, not the other way around, I think the latter).

HD-DVD is dying. The only thing HD-DVD can hope for is to die slowly.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

ok!  I'll do this as soon as everyone sends one to Sony and tells them to give up the Videogame wars.

Dear Sony,

It's over.  Save your money and time.

Here's a video from my band's last show Check out more (bigger) videos here http://www.youtube.com/user/icemanout

Stop trolling.

Nintendo is winning in the beginning of a generation and suddenly Sony should quit after leading the past decade or so, right...
