^^Where are you seeing 35 and 15 hours for Wii Sports and Wii play?

I've been checking Nintendo channel for Spain and Scandinavia, and it is at 37 and 30something there. For some other proof,

http://kotaku.com/5018904/nintendo-channel-reveals-hard-truths-about-wii-play-boom-blox-more says 28 hours, but it is a few months old (June).

For Wii Play, the number isn't 15 hours (I checked), but 12 hours for Scandinavia.

Wii Sports was at the same time 33 hours in Japan - http://gonintendo.com/?p=46372

If you've read thoroughly especially the chart itself on the article the Wii actually increasing in usage. It seem that Wii owners arent playing the Wii just for Wii Sports after all. And yeah, this is a survey so this sint really a considered fact. You will knew the real average usage content of Wii gamers on the Wii channel.

Wii Sports is being averaged ~ 35 hours. Wii Play ~ 15 (according to Nintendo channel). This means that those account for 5-6 months of play (using this data).

So actually, this leads more to the thought that Wii Sports + Play is being played as much as all other titles combined.

Please correct me if I am using some numbers wrong here.

Actually thats not how the channel works at all, it tracked the sessions on the hours you most played in a game. Which means if you played Wii Sports 1 hour a day, then Nintendo tracked it if you only played it in 30 minutes its still tracked it but it calculate it depends on what average time you played Wii Sports. So if you've played Wii Sports 1 hour a day then after a month you only play it 30 minutes a day  it still record it 1 hour a day. So it doesnt matter if you've played a game till 5 hours if you only played it 1 hour a day.

I'm a bit confused. Can you write that again, because I have no clue what you are trying to say here.

So, if I understand the chart correctly, this means that the average Wii is being played ~ 8 hours a month (~ 500 minutes).

Hardly a lot. In fact, it is around 15 minutes a day in average.

I play a little more than this, but not much. I play maybe once or twice a week for 1-2 hours a time. Looks like a good moderate dose of video gaming. (Maybe this is why the Wii is the right console for me.)

If you play a game 3 hours a day then after a week you play the same game till 6 hours it still registers a 3 hours a day because its the average of your total play time get it?

See thats the thing, its really difficult to tell if that is good or bad until you compare it to another console.  It may be that this is a decent number, or a great number, or a terrible number...without something to compare to we simply don't know.

Every console is going to have a certain fraction that are actually collecting dust, that group will bring this number down significantly, and the same is true for the group that plays the console fanatically only they bring it up obviously.  Without some idea of how large these contingents are for other consoles its really hard to tell where the Wii should be on this scale.

I agree this is hard to tell without nothing to compare it too, also knowing how big the audience is and the age range for it. The only thing that it DOES tell us is that its being used by people who buy it, lol.

...I guess the more you know right? ....Right? -_-

No it doesn't.

If I play 3 hours every day for a week, and then 6 hours the 8th day, it does this.

3+3+3+3+3+3+3+6=27

So the average is 3.375

You sadly can't compare it to other consoles. However you can compare the different months and you can easily see that the quote from Darren Williams is wrong.

"I think on one hand the Wii has become the most expensive board game on Earth - it's the kind of thing that families will play at Christmas, and probably won't play again throughout the remainder of the year."

Because if his quote was right, than December 2007 should have the highest values.

Thanks for this intresting stuff haxxiy.

and if you play 3 hours one day and then 1 hour another day it does this.

3+0+0+0+1+0+0=4

average is 30+minutes a day. Not 3hrs/day as you claim.

Sorry, my point wasn't that the average is actually 3.375 hours a day, I was just refering to why his example was incorrect. Really, the average playtime is probably lower than 5 minutes a day.

If thats how they calculate it then its not that accurate, and why even calculate it if thats the case then these charts and whatnot are bull. If thats how Nintendo channel does things then its more like a PR ploy to show that there Wii games are played more than accurate data.
