Well being plus one or two can be explained by the system updating in-between when you check and when you post. That is, someone could post and add one or two to the post count. Being off by more than that though I can't explain.
Edit: I am more confident in this now that I checked and I appear to be dead on with the number. I would say deleted posts would account for the other missing numbers, but I don't know if posts can be deleted on this forum.
