Forums - Gaming - EGM September Issue Review Scores- Lair and Blue Dragon Disappoint

I have to admit that I do use reviews as a reference to which games I'd like to buy. The review of Mario Party stopped me from picking it up. I imagine these reviews will hurt sales of Lair. I also like reviews from magazines or sites that give reviews from multiple reviewers. For example EGM or Famitsu. I find that one reviewer sometimes can be too biased to tell the whole story. I've disagreed with IGN on too many occasions.

Reviews from fans can be even worse as some will force themselves to like or hate a game. I suggest playing lots of games and comparing your own reviews to some of the sites or magazines and seeing who you tend to agree with. Those are the reviewers you should seek out first.

Yeah guys, a preview is always an accurate portrayl of a game. They would never paint a game in a positive light regardless of merit - especially IGN. Did you ever wonder why Sony didnt hype lair at e3? Or why they haven't been having a marketing push for a game a few weeks away? Too bad washimule will not see how Lair = Megaflop

It's not gonna be a megaflop...it may end up being mediocre...but a lot of PS3 owners will still pick it up, cause it's dragons killing stuff! Which makes up for some of the score...

Also, ckmlb, in case you didn't see whoever else posted it...there were definitely ground missions in the last Rogue Squadron game...and they sucked, majorly. Which is why I've doubted Factor 5 and Lair since day one...

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

There's nothing to worry about, I hope.
I know this isn't the same but Paper Mario 2 received a 6 or so from EGM. People were freaking out, too. But it turned out that EGM was one of the very few magazines or sites that disliked the game or thought it was average.

It'll probably get better reviews in the upcoming weeks. You guys are overreacting.

Your thinking is a mega flop.

I saw Lair adds in mags two months ago, Tv adds will come the week of release. Since when do reviews impact sales so much? Look how well crap like mario party is selling. (IGN gave it 5.2)

I think there is a little bit of a difference between the Star Wars game and Lair. I only rented that game because I didn't care much for it (though I enjoyed the first two games of the Rogue Squadron series). I didn't get far in the ground combat of the Star Wars game and I don't know if being on the ground in Lair is really required, but since you're on the dragon, Lair is more of a 'mow down everything' and I see that as very different from the Star Wars game. When it comes to ground combat, I'm more (and always have been) worried about the ground soldiers you fight against because they didn't look too interactive with the dragon. In the videos, they seemed to be more like bowling pins rather than any kind of threat and to me, that looked kind of boring.

Hopefully there will be some calibration options for the Sixaxis to make it more comfortable, but it shouldn't be impossible to get the hang of. I don't remember which site's preview said it, but they said it takes a while to get used to it, but it's much better once you have.

I wasn't expecting a 10 from the game, but I'm expecting it to be similar to the Rogue Squadron games with large levels that should look good with tons of stuff everywhere and except for the cheesy Star Wars voice acting, the Rogue Squadron games (in my experience, the first two of the series), they were fun.

Seriously though, were is my new Panzer Dragoon?

Just out of curiosity, are you the same Hyperonion on the Rottentomatoes forums?

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I got that from an other forum with the same thread.

So, you're taking advice from someone who knows even less than I do about how EGM works?

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

I think we should just wait as the magazine is sent out. The actual neogaf thread has the poster putting up the reviews that the games had and a couple of bullet points on some of them. Whether or not that user is truthful or not, I can't tell you because I barley view those forums. I say just wait as we see more reviews and can see more in-depth information on what reviewers thought of the game.
