Forums - Sales - Why do we get official PR from MSFT but not Sony?

since when does announcing numbers increase sales?

ever get the itch to have/do something everyone else has/does?

It comes over me every once in a while. I even go through the list of top sellers for the systems I own to see if there are any popular games I haven't played yet.

Although I am a psychology major and understood this before you even said it, I was referring more to the facts that

a) 90%> of gamers do not scope out sales numbers for games

b) Many gamers are a biased lot and do not care.

c) People who do own a ps3 and surf sites like this one have probably already bought LBP. In fact i think there may be around a 100 here that owns lbp. If not more.

d) Immitation works in several ways beyond the way you described. If, like the circumstances are now, many things are going on all at once, then publisizing AFTER another big thing happened gives more of a chance of something sticking to memory. See: RECENCY EFFECT

If it's unimpressive, at least relative to the competition, why announce it? If you ask me it's better to stay silent than bear bad news.

But these titles all did great with respect to other Sony games and that's what matters.

but it doesn't matter to the fanboys who will come in saying "sony only sold 1m units for LBP so far. So much for LPB is going to be HUGE" You just fuel the fire when the competitors games are blowing yours out of the water.

Its not like the sales for the games are bad, just not as big as Gears.

^This.

After M$ touts: 2mil copies of Gears 2 week 1, you expect sony to come out and say 0.3 mil copies of Res 2 sold week 1?

Week 1?...lol day one. The game might make 2.5-3 M by the end of week one. I would hate to see week two, lmao.

if you're going to hold on to "2 million day 1" then accept it that it didn't sell at all on day two then, since it got 2.1 million worldwide after 2 days.

EVERY game (except for a few) has 2 days of sales and we call it "week1".  Weird how that turns into "it's only two days" when you want to blow it up.

Actually (correct me with proof if wrong) most American releases are on a Tuesday and most Europe releases are a Friday.

Well, I've asked about it too, and people all around this forum tell me it's a 2 day release all across the board for the numbers...

Games are usually released on Tuesdays in the US but Gears was released on a Friday.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.
