Forums - Gaming - Square Enix will publish Supreme Commander 2

This are some interesting news, not so much about the game, but about what Squeenix's new actions, it seems that they is serious about gaining a strong foot on Western-oriented games. I wonder which western games will follow. This is definitely not the Square of before

Square Enix today announced that it will publish Gas Powered Games' Supreme Commander 2, a sequel to the 2007 real-time strategy game.

No other details about the game, including platforms or release dates, were announced, just that these would be available "at a later time."

Square Enix did note this deal would be the first of several new publishing deals, with the company looking to expand its western development portfolio. Traditionally, the Square Enix group has only worked with other Japanese companies.

"We see great opportunities in European and North American markets, both of which are expected to be maintaining sustainable growth over these coming years," said Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix Co., Ltd. "Therefore, it is crucial we create alliances with proven developers such as Gas Powered Games in order to serve these significant markets better by providing products and services in tune with customer tastes."

Never heard of it! Is it any good?

Quem disse que a boca é tua?

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

Didnt see that coming. Wada really knows what he is doing, I sense a bright future.

I havent played the first game but heard its PC version is amazing and 360 version is not. If that is the game I think about.

I did not like the first game. So SE is getting bigger and bigger :O

I have no idea, never played the first, I posted the news not because of the game (the first one was well received, by the way, it has 87% in GR) but because it's a strange move, Squeenix publishing a PC RTS (which will probably be on consoles too) is something really different to what I expect from them. I mean, to me, it's as strange as if someone posted something like "Atlus will be publishing the next Half-Life"

SE has only been doing strange things since Wada. Remember Revenant Wings? Crazy stuff

My feelings about this from the thread I mistakenly created:

So I don't know whether SE realizes this, but Supreme Commander should neve come within 500 feet of a console controller. I could barely control the game with my ridiculous use of hotkeys and a mouse, but I just can't imagine what they are thinking if they are thinking of a console version. Unless they are thinking of dumbing it down, in which case I hope SE goes bankrupt a months before SupComm 2 makes an appearance. SupComm 1 was an extremely satisfying game if you managed to rein it all under control.

To further comment. I hope no angsty teens with impossible hairsdos show up in between my walls of steal clashes.

I don't think S-E have any say in the game design of the game.  I never played the first Supreme Commander but if it was really good, then I would definitely be interested in SC(not Soul Calibur)2.

WTF is Wada doing

BRING TAKESHI SUZUKI BACK!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

That was more of a joke addition. SupComm was a badass game. It was the psiritual successor to Total Annihilation. THere was no food. You could have 500 tanks, 1000 planes, and 5000 ships if you had the time and money to build them. Also you could have as many super units as you wanted. It was VERY difficult to control but once you got the hang of it it was one of the most satisifying RTS games around. Watching hundreds of units duking it out was just so amazing. The graphics were bitchin' too for an RTS, especially one of this scope. It definetly brought my PC to its knees a few times during the bigger bettles.
