Because Wada loves MS, and MS loves him back with cash. I'm not too mad about it though... only Star Ocean 4 360 exclusivity annoys me... Square aren't as good as they used to be.. now if MS had taken Atlus from me... I'd go in... guns blazing.

| TheSource said: Odds are, sometime in 2007 Square-Enix looked at the market and saw the following: Japan: DS is huge in Japan and has the highest attach rate in Japan, PSP was making inroads on a hardware basis, but cost more to develop for and sold fewer games. Wii will have a big base in Japan, but has a low attach rate, especially for 3rd party games. PS3 has a base too small for Final Fantasy XIII and the like until at least 2009, but the gamers buy more third party games on average, despite a comparable overall attach rate to Wii. Xbox 360 has a tiny base in Japan, but the users buy six or seven games relative to the 3-4 a Wii, PSP or PS3 owner buys, and relative to the 5-6 a DS owner buys. Decision: Low tech games will go on DS short term. Projects that would have been standard PS2 fare in 2002-2005 will be split between PSP in the short term, and Wii in the longer term for Japan. High tech projects will go to PS3 when it became viable. But... It also became apparent with PS3 launching 18 months after 360 in Europe, and with Xbox 360 selling better with a wider base already established in the Americas it would be foolish to keep content off 360 given that through at least 2009, potentially much longer, the Xbox 360 will have a bigger base in the Western markets, and by extension, the world. Even though the Wii attach rate is quite high in the west (6-8) Square-Enix probably wouldn't have reached the numbers it wanted for FFXIII and similar games even with that base because of the situation in Japan. |
Then why Star Ocean: The Last Hope is a 360 exclusive??? a franchise that sells the most in Japan, that was first on the SNES, then on the PS1 and the PS2 (all market leaders in Japan) suddendly changes to the 360, third place in Japan with less than a million userbase??? It would make more sense to make it for the Wii, or HD-multiplatform or even PS3 exclusive...
And The Last Remnant??? and don't say to me it's because of the development on the PS3, because the game is going to PC also and the Unreal Engine 3 is easier to develop for PC, and still only has a 360 release date...
I'm not mad for the money they're giving to them, my problem is the excuses and the lying...
It's obvious that Microsoft is paying them. Also, Wada realizes (unlike Kitase and Nomura) that spending 50-100$ mil on FFXIII and FFVSXIII for PS3 would be a financial suicide. Let's not forget most of the previous Final Fantasy costed much less to produce and sold great on the market leader. To compensate for those lost opportunity, they have adopted a milking plan. That's why they mostly support DS and PSP.
How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Now that's where you're wrong...
I meant that tongue in cheek, as I'm no longer a particularly big fan of Squeenix, but now that I think about it, Squeenix has published more games on the Wii than on the other two consoles.
Wii has Dragon Quest Swords, FFCC: MLaaK, Soul Eater, and that Chocobo game.
360 has Infinite Undiscovery, and Final Fantasy XI.
PS3 has FF XI.
Granted this is all set to change in the near future, but...damn Squeenix has been ignoring the consoles this generation.

Can u actually put Soul Eater and Dragon Quest Swords in the same category with the HD projects? If u mean sheer volume of releases, then Ubisoft is supporting the Wii more than HD (Petz series and such). The only high quality - hardcore game SE has released for the Wii thus far is Chocobo.

At this point, I believe we can, actually. I see what you're getting at, and things will skew as time goes on, but seeing as how Squeenix hasn't released squat-diddly for the HD consoles so far, their Wii lineup is winning by default at the moment. Which is the irony I was referring to. Their Wii lineup ain't fantastic by any means, but at least I can actually play them...
