Forums - PC Discussion - Officially boycotting Blizzard

Yes, lets boycott blizzard. It's not like I'm planning to pick up WotLK in < 24 hours, or SC 2 the instant it comes out. Oh wait, I am, and there's nothing that can stop me. Unfortunately, blizzard could send a couple of burly guys to beat me up, and I'd probably still buy these two games, so them banning an account you paid $45 for 10 years ago for breaking the EULA probably isn't going to stop me...

I didn't break the EULA in any way shape or form.

I think technically D2Loader isn't permitted... though enforcing that is kind of a jerk move.

vlad is talking about WC3 Jereel. Yes technically D2Loader does break the EULA because it is 3rd party software, but they've never done anything about it until now.

While I play Diablo II as well, I don't run anythign but D2.exe when I play. I also have absolutely nothing running on WC3.

@Scottie do you have proof that the D2 world is expanding? Have you played D2 as long as I have because if so than you can not deny that Diablo 2 is a dying game (in terms of users). Give me a link for proof that D2 is still in the top 20. And even if it is see these points.

1. If you read my OP you'd realize when I said I was upset people were banned for multiple cd keys so they can play more characters by themselves that would also mean sales for D2 can't be counted accurately. There are many people that have over 10 cd keys, D2Loader is an extremely popular program in D2. So we have no idea how many real new players are joining even with sales data.

2. If your using amount of accounts growing as information that doesn't count as proper information either. I myself had 10 accounts at one point and I know people that had over 100 accounts. When Blizzard says 350,000 accounts were closed that doesn't mean 350,000 players were banned. I'm guessing it's more like 100,000 players. Check d2jsp forums you'll find many people bitching about how they lost over 100 accounts worth of shit that took them 8 years to farm.

3. When you say why would they sabotage this, take this fact into account. D2Loader has been around for a while around 2006. Warden (Battletnet's anti-cheating program) was also developed at that time. At the time Warden could ALREADY sense who was using D2Loader and who was not. If you know how Warden works, you can't say well maybe they just didn't program it to figure out who was doing what. NO! Warden is similar to spyware, it actually scans your D2 folder, Warden also scans your .dll to tell if you've modified the game code at all. However, despite many ban waves that occurred during 2006 and 2007, Blizzard never banned anyone for using the D2Loader, so here's a question back at you, why would they ban D2Loader now?

Think about it, who plays D2 the most, a person with D2Loader or someone without. Obviously anyone who has D2Loader plays Diablo hardcore (not the actual hardcore mode) and these same people will probably continue to play Diablo 2 for years and years. Blizzard isn't as worried about other players because they know since they're not as hardcore they'll probably just move onto another game.

Now tell me my OP still doesn't make sense.

I did not say that the D2 world was expanding, i said that lots of people are buying the game.

I present as proof the VGChartz thread detailing NPD PC sales for September 2008

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=45753

"So we have no idea how many real new players are joining even with sales data."

I don't care how many users are joining, nor do Blizzard. They care about how many people are buying the game, and the answer is, alot. Destroying the game's online would lower these sales and thus that is not their intention

"If your using amount of accounts growing as information that doesn't count as proper information either."

I'm not, NPD sales = sales (in the USA)

why would they ban D2Loader now?

Because up until now they either did not have the resources to do it, or did not think it negatively impacted upon the company, or the people who bought the game. Now they do.

"Now tell me my OP still doesn't make sense."

Your OP still doesn't make sense

hmm.. without Blizzard there is nothing for me to play on my PC, so, no, I won't be boycotting Blizzard, even if they banned my years old D2 account I haven't used for uhmm.. years

and I'd be even happy if they banned my WC3 account, for I'm a bit too addicted to DOTA...

edit: *sigh* sadly I haven't been banned from WC3..

Its not Blizzard's vault. Its the work of Activision. Blizzard was all about the gamers (they were making more than enough £££), Activision is all about the profits. What better way to get people to buy 3 versions of SC 2 than banning people who play SC 1.

Blizzard is a horrible company, and it's good that people are starting to wake up and smell the shit.

I don't agree with your reasoning that they don't ban multiple WoW accounts just because they pay monthly. It just so happens that the regular WoW exe can be run in multiple instances, while D2 (I'm assuming) cannot.

That's the only problem I see - if they changed the regular D2 exe, all is good. I can't really blame them for banning people that are running unofficial exe's on Battle.net... They just need to fix their own shit, that's all. I wouldn't really call it being greedy, I doubt their intention is to ban legit users.
