Nice blu-ray's market share keeps going up and up with more and more releases. And these big releases are helping out a bunch. I hope Blu-ray can make it to 12% this holiday.

And I'll leave the naysayers to someone else.

Blu-Ray doesn't have 12% market share. Are you instead referring to those rosy "market share among top Blu-Ray movies" figures?

The majority of sales come from those "top movies", so what's your point?

A movie like Transformers can sell 8.3 million the first week, and all those movies in the $5 bin hardly compare.

And so enters the ones I were talking about. Got poof of what yuou say?

My source is this, where if I understand it correctly the "market share" figures aren't really market share in its common meaning, but either "revenue share" or the one I mentioned before.

What's your source?

Dark Knight was brilliance. I feel sorry for the people who didn't enjoy it.

It's obviously going to be good all around, but does anybody know what the shipments for the DVD versions of DK will be?

I do as well. Since they had to sit through 2 hours and 30 minutes without having anything cool happen.

Atleast blow up the boats on the end for christs sake...

The movie was brilliant.  I'm sorry it wasn't directed by Michael bay and didn't have explosions every five seconds.

I'm not very informed about the DVD vs Blu-Ray battle, but I don't think those figures are from "top movies". If I remember correctly they're actually from "top Blu-Ray movies".

It's like someone taking the best-selling multiplat PS3 titles and calculating PS3's market share vs the 360 from there.

See...Michael Bay shouldn't direct pearl harbour and movies like that. But a movie where dudes in bat costumes run around and the villans have half of their faces burned(yet they keep on living and recover in no time) or wear joker like makeup is totally michael bay material. I am sorry he wasn't involved as well...

From what I understand it's using new releases that appear on both formats.

The main argument I've seen used against the figure is that it doesn't include the thousands of movies already released on DVD that aren't also on Blu-Ray, thus making DVD's current sales seem smaller than they really are.

It would be like comparing multiplat titles and ignoring the exclusives when arguing total software sales.

I'm having a hard time confirming it either way because the links in the Blu-Ray thread aren't working for some reason.

I'm pretty sure that the figures used to be calculated the way I mentioned (which may be pretty unfair), but that may have changed in the meantime. In the last page of the thread there are also some revenue figures which are obviously biased towards Blu-Ray since it's more expensive.

no, you're wrong.  Just look at what happened when iron man came out, it's painfully obvious that blu-ray is extremely front loaded.  It sold 500k on blu-ray and 7.2 million on DVD and week 1 but blu-ray sales increased 145% while DVD sales increased 21%. Despite 7.2 million sold sales only increased 21% while 500k on blu-ray increased sales 145% meaning other titles are still selling really well on DVD while blu-ray is really top heavy.

Or it could mean that 21% of 100 is 21 while 145% of 10 is only 14.5....

no ,145% percent increase meaning it did almost a double and another half for that week.
