Here we are taking AAA as being 90% on average in ratings such as Metacritic or Gamerankings. If anyone wants to come on this thread just to say "I dont care about reviews" then please dont bother replying -_-

So what JRPG do you think will be the first to average 90% on Metacritic? I will say that it will be DQ 9 for the DS, second then being FFXIII, just the safest bet and well I cant see a FF flag ship game not being AAA, reviewers give 90% just because of the name. I think the one after that will be FFXIII versus, then Agito and thats about it until some other FF game or DQ flag ship game is announced.

WKC and SO4 look nice but the track record of L5 and Tri-ACE shows they have never produced AAA games unless they have been spoon fed ala L5 making DQ 8. 86% my bet for those games if they live up to the hype.

Persona 3. OK on some sites the press average is 8.9 or 89% instead of 90 but thats damn close. Since you mention DQ 9 then obviously you're not just talking about games on "next gen consoles" so that cements my choice of Persona 3. If not 3, then Persona 4.

In other words the first AAA JRPG is already out, if you haven't played it go get the new FES version! It more or less includes double the content of the original.


The chance of the best JRPG coming from square enix is slim. They only make derivative crap these days. They haven't released a praiseworthy RPG since they merged.

Square Enix certainly are not in the class of SSoft but I cant see the 3 upcoming FF games from the Fabio Nova series not being AAA, those games are of very high production value and a lot of class behind those games.

is DS even considered 'this gen"? since it came out a lot time ago. With the slight change from it's original DSLite.

I mean if it came out in 04. that's 4 years ago.

Of course it is "this gen", consoles this generation are all pretty far into there cycle now.

The first one to give player shooter controls will be first one to get 90% and yeah I'm writing this becouse I'm still pissed about Mass Effect scores :)

And I dont think DQIX will score 90 or higher. But I think all 3 announced FFXIII games will do it.

WKC or you could call VC as AAA since reviewers are usually a lot harsher on that genre it would be fair to say 85%+ is ~ 90%+ with the exception of FF which gets an easier time with critics.
