Forums - Gaming - OXM reviews The Last Remnant

Does anyone have a link to the actual review ?

How can you possibly misspell QWERTY? It's spelled correctly on the damn keyboard.

I actually think in this case it would be reasonable for Sony fans to want this game to bomb sales wise, but have it get good reviews...why?

Because that increases the change of SE going through with the PS3 port. (potentially "enhanced") If this game sells really well on the 360, SE might feel that it is not worth it to port to the PS3.

I don't really understand your logic.  Successful products typically get additional money to expand their markets.  Companies would be more likely to walk away from a bomb.  I think PS3 fans want this game to be successful, because SE has already stated it is coming to the PS3.

@Zen - Get over it.  Your preemptive strike against "ps3 fanboys" is BS and you know it.  It is nothing more than spin to take away from the fact that the Official Xbox Magazine gave a money-hatted timed exclusive an average score.  Of course this thread is going to bring in fanboys from both sides.  If OXM gave it a 10, the thread would have been posted numerous times by xbox fanboys as to how great the "exclusive" is.  It's like this on every gaming forum.  I understand your point, but don't call out PS3 fans in a way that pretends that you or other xbox fans are somehow superior and above this nonsense.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

From a sales perspective this generation with Fable 2, Fallout 3, Oblivion and Mass Effect - WRPG's are much better sellers than JRPGs this generation.

From a review score perspective Review score averages WRPGs have scored around 10 to 15 points better than JRPG's this generation.

JRPG's are stagnant since PS2 days and I do not have much hope that FFXIII or Star Ocean 4 will turn things around in regards to improving the JRPG genre.

WRPGs are main stream and appeal to gamers world wide. JRPGs are for the hardcore gamers, fans of that genre. JRPGs are niche market except for FF series, Pokemon and Dragon's Quest that sell well.

BTW: In regards to estimating sales of Last Remnant it will be lucky to sell 700 000 on X360 and it could reach around 400 000 on PS3. (assuming it is coming to the PS3 as well)

uhhh....last year?

I'd like to point out something ironic that we'll see here.

We're gonna have every PS3 fan on this forum comment on this thread.

They'll say things like "another square-enix screw-up" or "square sucks" or "MS bought another flop."

However, the irony is that if OXM had given this game a 10/10, these same people would say "It's OXM, of course they gave it a 10/10," and "Let's wait for some real review sites, this one source isn't credible," or, "OXM, enough said."

The irony doesn't lie in their hypocrisy. It's expected. What's ironic is how kids today couldn't hate corrupt government, intolerance, special interests, and bias more than they do now, yet any one of these folks would be far more bias and corrupt given the same responsibilities as any government official in any government.

I can tell you the people on this website, that you could trust IRL with any kind of social responsibility, and those that you couldn't. Fanboyism has nothing to do with what console you like. It's about the type of person that you are.

So OXM went light on the Last Remant and gave it an undeserved 7/10, when really it was a review from a reliable magazine it may get a 5/10?

Like I said on my last post in this thread. JRPGs are not stagnant. If they were, they would've (mostly) disappear from the face of the earth like point and click adventure games did over a decade ago. JRPGs being stagnent is a misconception caused by the fact that the hyped JRPGs other than FF for the most part make little to no changes between games *points at the Tales series*. However, Persona 3 and 4 both depart from this typical JRPG formula. Also, Star Ocean The Last Hope has a samilar framework as SO3 but as enough differences to prevent the game from being to same-y.

RPG's for the 360 just aren't quality. I mean look at White Knight Chronicles. That game will sell millions. Eternal Sonata flopped during its transition to the PS3 because us PS3 fanboys boycotted it since it wasn't a Sony exclusive but we still rated is amazingly and it's completely destroying the 360 version on metacritic.

. Us fanboys are actually pretty powerful. We have actually infiltrated OXM just to give The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery horrible scores.

I thought WKC was going to be great but now with the online mode and all, well...I think it'll be amazing now.  The only 360 exclusive JRPG that looks to come close to WKC in terms of quality is Star Ocean The Last Hope.

I have heard plenty of times what letter scores equal on Metacritic ratings, but anyone know why 1UP gave the PS3 and 360 versions of Eternal Sonata a C+ and Metacritic put is as a 60 on the 360 and a 58 on the PS3?

This comes straight from Metacritic themselves.

C+ 58

Dumb asses.

More for me to add to my personal "Why Metacritic is so inconsistent" argument.

Metacritic also has just 7 scores for the PS3 version while Gamerankings has 25. Metacritic sucks... wow...

Also just to add to your Eternal Sonata argument, on Gamerankings it is 83.4 (PS3), 79.6 (360). Remember though that the PS3 version has limited number of scores.

OT - TLR rocks your socks.

I'm glad I could help you go on a rant against metacritic. When it comes down to it though I think that gamerankings is absolutely godawful horrible and unjust and most of their ratings are unfair.

Glad you agree.

When is the US release for TLR anyways? I want this game on the top of my gamefly list.

I was being sarcastic because he said "they've been stagnant since the 'PS2 days'" yet those days weren't that long ago.
