Forums - Gaming - It's fairly obvious that 2008 "belongs" to Nintendo, but here's why

I think that for completion's sake, you should have included PS2 numbers.

Agreed, because it is still the #1 SD console. Wii has a way to go.

No, the Wii sells more hardware and software than the PS2 nowadays, so the days of the PS2 being #1 are already over. But thanks for reminding us that the Wii will be the first console to win two generations, the sixth and the seventh.

But Wii will never win the HD console war. Ever.............. Ever.

"Hey, I just present the facts. It's up to others to twist, bend, deny, and blatantly ignore them."

I am guessing Snarf's strategy is to just ignore them.

lol

Oh I'm sorry am I wrong? Wii is an HD console now? Ohhh ok. My bad.

I think the point being made is that you're rearranging goalposts, actually.  Mostly by using a buzzword that ultimately only refers to a TV output standard which is pretty close to identical to what PC monitors have been doing for about 20 years now.

Well, as you can see, it's pretty obvious that even though Nintendo sells a lot more than the competition, it doesn't matter because they still have sold 0 HD console.

Exactly. Also Wii Music is fail.

Obviously Wii caters to grandmas, soccer moms, and other non-gamers. Here at VGChartz we have lost our resolve by focusing on the casual market. I believe that we need to focus 100% on the HD aka Hardcore aka the Real market. With this new market focus, VGChartz can regain credibility among the elite sites such as N4G and the GameSpot forums.

You did a good job SkyRender but by my and many others opinions, these numbers are just sugar coated falsities.

On a broader note, the whole "moving the goalposts" thing apparently isn't just being done by fanboys; it seems even the developers are doing it (and getting increasingly vitriolic; see Epic go from "no money in Wii development" to "controls are gimmicky" to "will never develop for the Wii" to "Wii is a virus").  It's not that Nintendo is finding no success in the console wars, but rather that its detractors keep redefining success to arbitrarily exclude the Wii at every turn (going back to its online critics' views: It will get slaughtered -> it's just a fad -> third party games don't sell -> the right third party games don't sell).

Goalpost rearranging is the classic ineffective tactic of people who know that reality doesn't actually favor them. Because apparently it's less trouble to try and convince people that success is defined by something besides success than it is to try and actually change how you do things to be successful yourself.

I disagree because I'm Bias.

*YAWN* So sick of hearing Nintendo being successful, can't reggie get hit by a truck or something? Its always profit this and that.

Undisputed success is only interesting when there's controversy involved, I guess. Which is kind of sad, when you think about it, but we humans crave disruption nearly as much as we fear it.

If you really want to ramp up the irony, wish for Reggie to get hit by a truck carrying nothing but piles upon piles of cold, hard cash that Nintendo has made on the Wii.

Very true, and I expect this trend to continue for the next few years. But you must admit .. has the Wii had much presence or "news" this year? or awesome games?

Are you high?

Most of the threads here and anywhere else is about the Wii.  Wiifit, Mario Kart, E3, Wii Music, Nintendo's press conference.  The majority of conversation on the internet and media for gaming WAS NINTENDO. That and GTA4 sucking.

Or the fact Wiifit and Mario kart is going to outsell pretty much everything shows Nintendo always had a bigger presence in gaming, its just most nerds don't want to acknowledge it.
