Forums - Sales - Will there be a 10million+ selling non Nintendo game in any region this gen

No. It will not happen anytime in the near future. 3rd party games are never as popular as Nintendo published games. On other consoles, there are too many 3rd party games for one to just rise that far ahead. Call Of Duty 4 and GTA IV is the most popular 3rd party games right now and neither is even close to getting to 10 million in one region. Now GTA:SA did come very close selling 8.72 million and 8.27 million in North America and "Others" respectively. And Vice City sold 8.2 million in North America.

Now that was on the PS2 which had an enormous installed base. The Wii will have the biggest base this generation and while I believe 3rd party games can sell very well, it's too much to expect that one game would be able to sell that much.

I'll come up with something better eventually...

If halo 3 will be bundled, it might make to 10 million in NA. :P

@Oyvoyvoyv: Did you forget Wii Sports Resort? I think the game will have a damn good shot at 10M in both America/Others regions. It's true we don't know the exact details of the game yet, but it's basically the game representing Motion Plus, so...

I wonder if Nintendo will come out with any more hard hitters later in the gen. They do have quite a long time before the Wii stops selling software so well, and even the DS has a good few years left in it.

You do understand that this means that you expect the title to sell ~ 20M WW, if not more, right?

I have my doubts that it will make that. I forgot it though, and I think it deserves a spot in the "maybe" pile, about as probable as for MKWii.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

Not in a single region,unless it's multi-plat,otherwise no.

Yeah, I do. I guess that is a lot, lol...

Still, it's spearheading Motion Plus, and it's a Wii Series game. It might be a bold prediction, but I can't imagine it selling that much less than Wii Fit. It seems like the appeal for the game is pretty broad (assuming the other minigames are great).

... Yeah. Sticking to my prediction: WSR for 10mil in America/Others!

Wii Sports Resort is a Nintendo game. This thread is asking if a non Nintendo game will top 10 million. Halo 3 has a chance because hasn't it already sold the most? GTA has already done so if you count all regions and both versions. If Gears of War 2 keeps up its day 1 sales, then it should by day 5.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

The thread was actually about a 10 million selling non Nintendo game in one region. Without counting multiplats, Nintendo is the only one that has managed this feat. That's why we started naming games in general this gen that will manage it (Nintendo or not).

As for your Gears of War 2 comment... what's up with that reasoning?

Gears of War 2 sold 2.1 million copies on day 1, if it sold 2.1 million copies on day 2, day 3, day 4, and day 5; then it would sell 10.5 million copies.

 I like your logic.

If the Wii keeps up the sales from week ending 27th December, it will have sold 150M by end of 2009.
