Forums - Sales - Will there be a 10million+ selling non Nintendo game in any region this gen

Nintendogs did that much in Europe so ye...wait, nevermind, it's a Nintendo game.

Wii Play is on its way to doing just that in North America so ye...wait, nevermind, it's a Nintendo game.

Wii Fit has ginormous legs, and has an outside chance of reaching that in North America and/or Europe, so ye...wait, nevermind, it's a Nintendo game.

..............

How's World of Warcraft doing?

And are there enough young Korean males to put Starcraft 2 over the hump?

Well, considering the fact that there are less than 10 non Nintendo console games that have sold 10M WW, I'd say no. VGChartz has it at 5.

There is one game that has made 10M in 1 region thoughthough. The Sims, the original one. It sold 11.39M in the Americas.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

No way, its even a stretch for a non Nintendo game to sell 10 million ww this gen tbh.

Halo 3 is the most likely candidate for a game on one console only (excluding PC).

GTA IV's done it, assuming you combine all the SKU's. Ditto for Call of Duty IV. And when Halo 3 comes out for the PC, it'll probably do that much too, worldwide.

...Can anyone name any others? I'm honestly at a loss here.

The only upcoming game which looks to sell 10M WW looking at track record is GT5. In a single region there is not a chance for any non Nintendo game to sell 10M.

no console game has a chance to sell 10 million in one region without being bundled like wii sports. halo 3 might eventually hit 8 million, but i would guess it'll fall just short of that. no way it'll get close to 10 million. outside of nintendo games the only game that even has a slight chance to hit 10 million ww besides halo 3 is probably gt5, but even that is quite a stretch given the ps3's small userbase.

wii fit is the only game that has any chance at all to hit 10 million in one region since it will sell leagues better than any other game except maybe mario kart, but should still outsell mario kart handedly. but still the chances are slim, i'd say wii fit could sell at most about 8-9 million in in america and others.

end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million,  360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million

Games I've beat recently: Super Mario Galaxy, Knights of the Old Republic, Shadow of the Collossus

Proud owner of wii, gamecube, xbox, ps2, dreamcast, n64, snes, genesis, 3DO, nes, atari, intellivision, unisonic tournament 2000, and gameboy

If you combine all the versions of Guitar Hero 3, it's damn near 10mil in America (9.93m). In fact, I believe it's the best selling non-bundled console game ever in America. Pretty amazing.

I hate how Wii Play is bundled because it comes with a Wii Remote yet Guitar Heroes isn't bundled despite being sold with a guitar like controller with the exception of the stand-alone game.

While I'm with you on this one, I have to concede that there is a shred of logic behind that reasoning. Essentially, you're paying more for the remote than the game, and the game itself is only $10 (1/4 the price of the peripheral). Additionally, the Wiimote you get with Wii Play is something you'll use in almost every game.

By contrast, the Guitar is only half the cost of the bundle, and there are precious few games you can play with the guitar. They're not completely comparable.

That said, it's still silly to not think of Wii Play as a game in its own right. We get monthly demonstrations that people actually pay extra for the game, and we have hard data to indicate that people actually play it quite a bit...
