Here is a good list of the games on the DS. There are new announcements almost every week so this list is always behind a little.

If you like Jrpgs then the DS is a must buy.

There aren't any huge improvements. You lose the ability to play GBA, but gain the ability to play downloadable games. Overall, I don't see why you should buy DSi.

I'm thinking they might set up a Virtual Channel for GameBoy stuff, since the DSi has internal memory. I'd be interested for that alone, personally.

Of course, if that doesn't tempt you, then I got nothin'.

DSI pros:
dlc, mp3 player, and picture editor, bigger screen, better sounds, a brighter setting

The cons:
-No gba slot (don't know why you would want it unless you already have some games),
-less battery life (DSI gets a lot brighter and you really only need a mid setting, thats basically DS lite at brightest setting)
-it comes out next year
- It will be more expensive than the ds lite when it comes out, the ds lite will probably go down to a 100, and the DSI will probably be 140-160.

If you want to wait, I say get the DSI.

As the title says... i'll get right to it then and skip the minor stuff.

  1. DS Lite > DS Phat in everyway EXCEPT Speaker quality on the DS phat is better (but I'm always on mute anyway) AND the GBA cartridge(assuming you have them) sticks out a little on the lite, not a big issue.
Obviously I don't own a DSi, but everything about it that's better than the DSLite (bigger screen same resolution, cameras, slightly thinner but longer, online store, upgradeable firmware) doesn't outway the lack of a GBA slot (aside from losing access to a massive games library, you lose the ability to play DS games which use the GBA slot. Post Guitar Hero doing it first, that may be an issue)

If the DSi is going to cost alot on release, get a DS Lite. If your phone has a good quality camera, get a DS Lite.

  2. Super Mario 64 DS
    New Super Mario Bros.
    Metroid Prime: Hunters
    Mario Kart DS
    Tetris DS
    Elite Beat Agents
    ADvance Wars: Dual Strike
Jump Ultimate Stars (Super Smash Bros. with Anime characters)
Kirby Canvas Curse (it's actually pretty fun)
    Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
    Lunar Knights
    The World End With You
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time
    Megaman ZX
    Metroid Prime Pinball
    Meteos
    Phoenix Wright and Sequels/spinoffs
    Professor Layton
    Pokemon
    Sonic Rush
    Star Fox Command
    FF Tactics 2
    FF 3 and 4
Castlevania: PoR and that new one

Another BONUS of the DSLITE is the ability to play all those GBA classics

  3. We can only hope (I say this because I don't follow the DS at all, I just buy the best games when I feel like playing the DS again). ACTUALLY, wait I know, if you're an RPG fan, DRAGON QUEST 9 and KINGDOM HEARTS SPINOFF

  4. What are you smoking, you're not a HD fanboy, your a PS3 fanboy :D (kidding). Graphics: Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, apparently the new Castlevania (Best 2D some say), definitely FF3 and 4, New Super Mario Bros,

  5. Only GBA, and ONLY DSLITE AND DSPHAT can. DSi is lame.

  6. Can't connect to PC. Not sure it can connect to anything other than a Wii, online (for multiplayer) and other DS's

  7. Yes. But you either have to have
    a) Wireless with WEP encryption/encoding OR none (can't use WPA-PSK)

    OR

    b) Buy a Nintendo Wireless adapter

  8. I can only speak for the DS Lite here. There are 4 brightness settings for the screen. Assuming the DS Lite is on mute, I've gotten upto 14 non-consecutive (so it's approx 14) hours on the lowest setting, 2nd lowest (one i use) it does a good 10-11, 2nd highest I haven't really tried so can't comment and highest (brightest) is around 7

  9. Downsides:
    - Graphically it's not a powerhouse (3D is decent, but think N64 with less textures)
    - I find very few games I really get hooked on
    - There's alot of great games, except I would deem very few of them AAA

    Upside:
    - Biggest games library
    - More diverse range of games
    - It's different from the playstation X in gameplay (I consider the PSP the PS1.5 to be honest)
-It's getting monster support, so expect ALOT of great games ahead
    - You'll appreciate retro gaming more.

  10. You'll need to ask someone in your own country

  11. Most of the early releases (new super mario bros., Metroid Prime etc) are cheap. Then again, DS games come out here for half the cost of HD games (that's RRP, so cheaper in store)

  12. With a certain "grey area of the law" item (which for fear of banning I won't name), you can use the DS to play music, watch videos. Surfing the internet is available on the DSi, but apparently like the PSP's, it's no substitute for a PC or even the playstation 3 (yep, I said it, it's that bad)

  13. DSi use SD cards. DS Lites, since they don't play music or watch videos out of the box, they don't require memory cards. I'm not exactly sure what happens to game saves, but i'm guessing it's on the cartridge.

Out of the 3, buy the DS Lite, it's a much more complete gaming device then the other two.

I dont why everyone here is so for the DSlite. If you want the gba slot then get a ds lite, bt think about it. Nintendo would release a channel like the vc for gb games...

Why are you so sure you won't get a Wii?

Anyway, I'd go for the DSi if you already have a GBA/Gamecube w/ Gameboy player

I never used the GBA slot on my DS Lite, so, It's not a problem for me to upgrade.

So let me get this straight. The ability to pay for a feature (on a game by game basis) that is absolutely free on the previous miodel that already costs less and has a longer battery life somehow makes the DSi better? Sorry, I bought the games I want to play once already. I see no need to buy a new, more expensive model with feature I don't want and hope for the priveledge of paying even more money to have to start all my games over again. DSi may appeal to you, but I would just buy a PSP if I wanted most of what it offered.

To address the OP your number two takes a lot of time to answer fully. I would say Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 4, Dragon Quest 4-6 (only one out I think), Pokemon, Super Princess Peach, New Super Mario Brothers, Kirby Canvas Curse, Meteos, Puyo Pop Fever, Castlvevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Final Fantasy Tactics A2, Disgaea Hour (or is it afternoon) of Darkness, Super Mario 64, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, The World Ends With You, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, and more I am too lazy to list. If you want my individual thoughts on any of the games feel free to PM me for a lengthy analysis.

Number 5 ties in really well with number 2. It can play any GBA game giving it a very diverse librar to choose from there. I'd list my favorites but I have named enough games for today.

On 6 there is a way to connect it to the PC actually. It doesn't do anything but charge the system though. I have only ever seen the cable once, and that was when one of my friends imported it from Japan to get a specific color.

I have gotten a good 16 or so hours on a single charge depending on the game. I want to say with Final Fantasy Tacics A2 I was getting closer to twenty, but it has been a long time since I played the game so I am unsure. The battery life is ludicrously long. It will outlast all but the longest road trips and easily get you through any given day.

Whoa, you nailed it man, but now...we have a new issue, did i mention im also a screen size fanboy? Ala PSP has a beautiful wide-screen LCD display...

And from what you just added, it seems the DSi has the better screen size. THEN again with the battery life still at a low, the DSi is basicly a "Toned down" PSP.

Jeez, this is getting harder. right now though for me its...

DS Lite >/> DSi.

Keep'um comin guys, i'd like more opinions on this matter. ~thanks in advance~
