Forums - PC Discussion - What was your first programming language?

Well, right now I'm learning HTML as a programming language in school. Is this a "gateway" language? Something that will help me in learning other programming languages? And which one should I learn next that will be the most useful?

What was your first progamming language you learned or tried to learn?

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

C++ then I learned C, VB, Java, Assembly (for the LC-3), and a little smalltalk right now. For work I'm gonna have to learn TCL and Perl by january 5th.

Too bad HTML isn't programming language. Well, I myself started with c64 basic and I currently can program about in any language there is. The thing is to learn different paradigms not languages itself. Actually you 'only' need to study the actual language when you need to optimize or do something more special. However I mostly do stuff in C++.

Visual Basic back when I was in primary school - those were the days

Haskell was next, then Java

I can recommend Haskel if you are decent at maths

For me, the first 3 months of java was like headbutting hot coals, that then kicked me in the acorns. However, it very much teaches you good programming technique, and I've grown to like it now.

VB and then C++.........forgot all of it though (was never good @ C++......too many confusing rules for me!).

Turbo Pascal, from there i went to Basic, C, C++, Visual Basic 6, Java, Assembly, .NET (VB, C#) and Python... But i currently do mostly web stuff in PHP and ASP.NET...

So I hear C# is the language to go instead of VB. True/False?

Basic on the c64.

HTML is a markup language (like lateX) not a programming language

My first is Ruby, but I quickly changed to C++

How can you possibly misspell QWERTY? It's spelled correctly on the damn keyboard.

some BASiC in middle school coz all we had was 286-386's at that time( back around '92-93) dabbled in some QBASIC on MSDOS...

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.
