I just want to say that Wii sports will be the best selling Wii game. Ever. There really seems to be nothing that can hold a finger to it. No matter what nintendo throws out in japan. Nothing is coming near Wii Sports. Wonder how the PS3's gonna do over the next 2-3 months.

I totally agree, Shams, that the Wii has the ability to pull in a lot of non-gamers. And you're probably right that some reviewers are probably just really stubborn and don't want to give the Wii a chance (even though i did say otherwise two posts ago). I don't think the majority of reviewers feel that way about the Wii though, especially considering the near-universal praise of the system. Then again debating about this point is pretty pointless considering there is no way to know for sure. My big point is that a Wii game is only as good as its controls because that is the single biggest feature of the console. If someone feels the controls are just plain awkward, the game is gonna get bad reviews despite whatever else the game has going for it. Also, if I think the controls for a particular Wii game could be done better on a standard controller, then the Wii game is using the gesture based layout solely for the sake of it. Or they're using motion controls because its easier for those non-gamers you're talking about. Which is fine, but why do I have to suffer for the sake of a non-gamer? I won't suffer because I won't buy the game. Instead i'll keep looking for a Wii game that does motion controls as I see fit. I believe if motion controls are done right, it doesn't matter if you prefer a standard controller or not, you will still like the gesture-based game. I think the very mixed reviews for SSX show that the controls are far from achieving universal appeal, and therefore the game warrants a rent first, buy later attitude because you may love it, or you may hate it. I'm glad reviewers are approaching Wii games with different attitudes because it gives me a better sense of whether i'll like it or not. A reviewers job isn't to approach a game the way my mother would approach it.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

dang 500 Kwaad...you talk too much. EDIT: Alright, I guess it is one of the best multiplayer games for casual gamers...but definitely not my favorite. It certainly is fun though. Super Smash Bros ranks way higher in my book...we play both versions every Sunday.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

From some of the reviews, it appears that SSX Blur is more for the hardcore gamer. From what I understand the game is hard, which would turn off non-gamers.

I don't think every game on the Wii has to be for the non-gamers...it certainly looks appealing to a wide crowd, but I really don't want all the Wii games to be designed for casual gamers...this is a very welcomed addition to my games.

THIS IS A REPLY TO THE POST BELOW MINE, read that first and sorry. Yo, flooflexible, the market they created is a new but separate market. Your right that they need to keep launching games for these non-gamers, but I don't think making games like Wii Sports is that hard. There is also a good chance that getting some of these non-gamers to start playing will convert them into true gamers. They might get bored of games like Wii Sports and realize there are more in-depth games that are worth getting. It can be similar to playing a new rgp. Most have complex battle systems with items/stats and a bunch of other stuff that is complicated. The thing is, they don't throw everything at you all together, but start you off slowly so that you can learn the basics before mastering the more difficult stuff. Games like Wii Sports can be the basics for these non-gamers.

shams you hit the nail on the head! Kwaad I'm sure in 2 months Gundam will have a million plus units be outselling Wii sports and the ps3 will be doubling Wii sales on a weekly basis.(In japan) Getting back to the point I really think Wii sports is following in the footsteps of Myst, I know what your thinking, Myst? Myst wasn't liked by most hardcore gamers, it got bad reviews, yet nongamers ate it up. Nintendo is creating a new market they may not always be liked by hardcore gamers, but so far is clearly being embraced by everyone else. My only question is, will it last? I think Nintendo's problem is there at least six months away from releasing anything like Wii sport/play, and if they want to keep that new audience they need to keep launching games for them.

vanguardian1 said: Kwaad, I'd LOVE to hear your thoughs on why so many Wii games scores are all over the charts. ;) Honestly, I'm wondering why several wii game's review scores are so outta whack with each other... it makes no bloody sense. It seems more like reviewers are playing different versions of the same game, if even sometimes.
personal taste. People try to base it off of what it is but then again if game lends itself to look like it would play better online yet does not offer that feature I am pretty sure some reviewer who loves online would add some extra negative points on that one. Lack of story? Gameplay? Graphics? What do you weigh more? what is a review? What you think is a good game based on your opinion, other opinions or a general opinion of the masses? What is your perception of general opinion? Reviews are a weird thing but I am sure they are personal.

Not exactly a fair take on any console. Well... it is fair to say all the Wii has is the controller... But the PS3 is lurking in that turf. Cant wait for Eye of judgement.
You forgot brand awareness and consumer perception. The Wii has sucessfully crossed the mainstream: http://www.vgcharts.org/news/news.php?id=118 Anyway, IGN gave SSX Blur an 8.4 if nobody posted it yet.

I guess I just hold controls as "one piece to a big puzzle", no more and no less important than any other part of that "puzzle" And I do look forward to Gundam Masou, I'm very curious as to how it will do. :)
